Default Eagle or Crower Rods?

Hello!

I'm in need of some expertise from some of you that have tried different rods. I'm building my JDM H22A to boost 20+ psi through a FMAX turbo kit. I'm debating on which brand of rods would hold up the best for this sort of application. I've seen both, and the I-Beam design of the Crower, which sort of resemble the stock rod design. However, the H-Beam design of the Eagle to me would seem to be a bit stiffer. Am I wrong in my assessment of the two rod designs? What do you EXPERIENCED builders have to say about this? Is there another brand of rods that I should consider? Thanks for the time and replies!

Peace!!!

Dan P.-

I have used Crower, Carillo and Oliver rods - my preference is the Carillo, but I have never had a rod failure with any of these rod manufacturers.

Actually, Eagle rods are H-beam rods. And I havenet heard of anyone having anything go wrong with Eagle rods. If your setup is gonna be less than 500whp, Eagle rods should be just fine.

My mechanic has been using eagle rods on his 500 whp turbo b18 for two seasons now, no problem w/ the H-beam rods

I have heard of eagles failing in the 700hp range. Also, I have a set in a n/a H22 with type S pistons. I have revved it to 8500 with no problems. Hard to beat them at the price they go for IMHO...

I have some crower I beams on the way. I always thought the H-beam design was weaker.

H-beams are for High HP low rpm....

Genreally I beams are better for high rpms, howerver, H beams can also do very well with high rpm applications. And as the article you links states, H-beams handle stress from forced induction a bit better...howerver, nowadays, rods are built pretty well so the attributes that apply to I beams apply to H beams as well and vise versa..

I think the Eagles are only tested for 600hp. I would say that for anyone who is going for a 300-400whp setup, would be just fine with Eagle rods.

Since I deal with Eagle I might be able to shed some light. The Eagle rods are tested as someone said to 600 hp. I have seen them go as high as 700 hp. I feel you can easily go 650 no prob, and on 20 psi they will work. I"ve got Eagle crank and rods in my bro's 7 sec. Mullis dragster with 2 full seasons on them and not a problem yet. I'd go with Eagle as far as your block is concerned if you need some prices let me know. I can get whole rotating assemblies, or just rods, etc. Good luck on your project. and =

On these motors with the eagle rods... do they have the 'upgraded' rod bolts or the original ones they come with?
