Default Which ones are better Koni, Bilstein or Tokico?

Koni, Bilstein or Tokico? I have checked them all out but I was wondering which ones are better or if anyone has had a bad experience with any of these? My car is lowered and I was needing them since my car still has the stock ones on it.

Bilstein are better then Koni. Nobody really knows though because everyone buys tokico and koni. Nobody ever really buys Bilstein because the shocks for are car are non adjustable and they cost like $100 each.

can you give some facts as to why bilstein are better than konis? i know once you get into the revalved shocks, they are all good.

also, koni's cost about $125 ea vs. the $100 ea. you quoted for the bilsteins.

I'd like to know too...however, in my case, I paid just over $350 for the Bilsteins, while I could have gotten the Koni's for $530 or so. I know there's better prices out there, but at the time, with what $ I had and what I wanted from a shock, I ended up with Bilstein.

They can handle a pretty good-size drop from what I hear (and to that note I might add that I should have gone lower than Neuspeed Sports) - lifetime warranty, also...I never saw anything about a limited drop. And like Breaka mentioned, they are revalvable so that you can use very high spring rates. Any reasons outside of these?

My buddy is the national STS champion and we were talking about suspensions one day and we named various shocks such as the Koni,Tokico, and Bilstein. And he "said bilsteins are just about the best shock out their." And he has been through numerous suspension setups on all types of cars he has lots of experience in this department. http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com

I saw a graffic comparing different brand of shocks...

The Bilstein was doing a good job like the Koni, but the Koni was on it's lowest setting.

The Bilstein is a progressive shocks...like a Monroe Sensatrac and like every shocks...

The Tokico(5 way) his a good shocks.

My preference?
The one in my avatar

The yellow one!

I have adjustable Koni Yellows on my Crx. And that are my choice from experience. You personally must have tried different brands to know which brand YOU like best.

Good luck!

I was going to buy the Bilstein's, but they will void warranty if the car has been lowered.

Well shoot, I read it somewhere, but still, they'll void if used for competition. I took the "modified part" as lowering, but I did read on a few threads on here that they will not follow warranty if lowered.

Another reason why people don't buy Bilstein is because they only make one type of shock for are car. So most people won't take them into consideration. Now if they were adjustable like a full coilover suspension alot of people would consider buying them.

I want to know about this too. I want to upgrade from my stockies and I can get a set of used Blisteins for free. The only catch is that one if them has a bent shaft . I called Bilstein and they quoted me $65 to fix the shock.

Should I spend the cash? I have never ridden in a car with aftermarket shocks so I do not know how much of a difference it would make. I know you guys will probably just say spend the $65, but I am not sure if it is worth it. Thanks

I've got an '89 Hatch w/B16 and have Koni yellows. I intially ran them with the Eibach Sportlines but after 6 mos of trying different rebound settings and different spring perch height settings, I came away very disatisfied.....but not with the shocks......the bump stops had all but nearly disintegrated and I obtained new bumpstops and tried the Eibach Pro-Kit springs and am happy to say that this a great setup. I've tried Bilsteins, back in the early '80s I used to have a couple of VW rabbits and VW rabbit pickups, they were great shocks back then. I can't say anything bad about Bilsteins but for this new generation of tuning, I'd say you'd get more for your moneys' worth buying the Koni's. Remember, they have adjustable spring perch settings, 2 for the front and 3 for the rear, and also adjustable rebound dampening.
Koni sources..........try Shox.com don't let their lack of website interaction scare you off. Request a quote and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

And if you want to make your car really feel tight.....get ES bushings.

aftermarket shocks, especially good ones, will make a huge, HUGE difference over the low-grade stock shocks in your 4g. the bilsteins are one of the best available but they are probably not as well suited for extreme drops or racing...

that said, take those free shocks. ****, if you don't want them, i'll take them!

Here is a .pdf file with shock dynomometer comparisons of the KONI Sport, Bilstein, Tokico Illumina, and KYB AGX for the front of a Civic/Integra. Give it a minute to load. It walks you through a comparison of what the valving curves and shock adjustments really do on brand new samples of each one.

So on that graph, what exactly are they saying? It sounds like Bilsteins' compression damping is nearly identical to the Koni's at high speeds, but too hard at low speeds...and they have the "digressive curve", although not as prominent as the Koni's.

And for the warranty, all I saw was that if it's on a "modified" car then the warranty is void. What is the Koni warranty like?

I didn't have a hard time putting the Bilsteins on my CRX if it matters.

If you have the cash to spend, and you want adjustability, go with Koni's. They're the obvious choice, especially if you see auto-x or track time in your future. If you don't care about adjusting them, and you just want a really high quality non-adjustable shock, Bilstein is the best. Less expensive too, but you're not paying for all the adjustment options either.

yeah, that about sums it up. koni if you're a racer or if you're lowered, bilstein if you just want really really good shocks.
