b16 swap completed, but CRAZY TRANNY PROBLEM!!
ok, just got done doing my b16 swap
and it started right up, yipee!!!
problem is, when i start it up, and push in the clutch, and put it in gear, it won't go in gear, it's like i have the clutch still up, it's not responding, but of course, i need to push the clutch in to start it. Well, i turn the car off, and try to start it without pushing the clutch in, and that didn't work, so i push the clutch, start it, try to put it in gear, but it acts like i'm not pressing the clutch,
now i replaced my timing belt, and waterpump, but didn't have the cashola for the clutch, so i figured i could make due until i saved the cash up, so, is there gonna be a quick fix, or is my clutch screwed beyond repair??? I don't want to drop the tranny!! I just got finished working 24 hours on the damn thing. And more would just be torture. Please. Help. Thank you.

oh yeah, forgot to mention, when it's turned off, i can run thru all the gears. I got the hasport shiftlinkage. So, i don't think that's the problem.
please, somebody, i need help!!
and my dad held up the clutch thingy on hte transmission, just to make sure that the pedal was working correct, and while he held it up, i tried to put it in gear, but it didn't go. Please somebody help me out!!

well, even if the clutch cable wasn't adjusted properly, if my dad pulls the lever up with his hand, shouldn't i be able to put the car in gear??

yeah, i put oil, in the transmission, and I don't understand how you guys are saying that i need to tighten the clutch cable more, because my dad picked up the lever, with his hand, and i couldn't put it in to gear!. grease the throughtout beariring?? no i didn't do this, i wasn't aware that i needed to and i don't know how. Any more solutions??
how easy is the lever on the transmission to pull up? it should be pretty hard. if it moves freely, chances are that you installed your clutch wrong, more than likely the throwout bearing or pressure plate.
well, it's not too easy, but i never installed a clutch. So i didn't even open the tranny casing. So it wasn't my clutch installing. Does anybody know what the problem is??
how far can you pull up? when it's installed on the car and everything is connected, you shouldn't be able to pull up on the bracket very much.. like 1 inch if you're lucky.. this won't dis-engage the clutch..
as for being able to put the car in gear when it's off.. that's normal.. you can shift through the gears clutch in or out with the car off..

well, i can pull up about an inch, i guess, so, you are saying that if i pull up on the thing with my hand i shouldn't be able to disengage the clutch?? with just my hand? Well, it seems like the clutch cable is pulling the thing up just as much as my hand is pulling it up. Is it really hard to disengage the clutch with your hand?
I believe when you do the swap, you need to bleed the clutch. I am pretty sure that the same thing happened to my friend Chad when we did his b18c1 swap into his Civic Hatch and he needed to bleed the clutch to get the air out.

Adjust the cable, if that doesn't work, then you put the clutch in wrong.
You should not be able to pull up the lever by hand if the clutch cable is adjusted correctly. That's the first thing to check. Just keep turning that little **** on the clutch cable until the lever stops moving upwards, and go from there.
Yeah, when I did my Y8 swap, It was like that too. I could put it in gear when the car was off, but not when it was started. So I loosened the clutch cable and it worked fine.
Well if you ARE SURE thats its not the cable
then
an idea
did you even look at the clutch disk?
It may be shot where the springs have come loose...if this has happened you will be able to go through the gears when the car is off but when the car is on you won't be able to go through the gears.
If this is the case you will have to take everything apart.
One way to try(if you want to move the car around)
put it in first when the car is off and try to start the car with the car in gear...if its the springs the car will still try to move forward even if you have the clutch depressed.

, wish me luck
, also i think i forgot to mention, the fact that the clutch pedal was not coming back up after pushing it down, so maybe if i had mentioned that you guys would have been quicker to tell me what the problem was, either way, thanks guys[Modified by PhatHardy, 1:51 PM 2/26/2003]
First of all you shouldn't have to bleed our clutch because your tranny should have a cable clutch. Second, you shouldn't be able to pull on the clutch lever very far and if it does move easily I would look there for your problem. Did you install the motor? If yes... did you check or change the clutch? If no... how hard have you been driving or how long have you been driving on the used clutch? All of these questions should lead you to the possibility of your car needing a new clutch.
i think your clutch is toast dude. i blew up the clutch in my old 89 DX hatch, and it had the same symptoms you are explaining. i could put it in gear and let the clutch out, but when i'd gas it, the car would just rev. it was like the clutch was still in.
what? i can run put it into gears when my car is off as well... even after i had my clutch installed at a shop.. i could still do it... when i start the car i'm not able to do it ofcourse.. but does that mean somethings wrong with my clutch if i can put it into gear when my car is shut off? how can it be toasted? hmMmm?
