Del sol VTEC????
How can you tell if its a Del sol VTEC (b16a) from the outside of the car..Im talking factory B16a del sol..do they have diff brakes,spoiler or something that makes them different in appearance?..Just curious cause im interested in getting one..i dont want one thats a base model thats been swapped
If you look at part of the vin# JHMEG2176RS the 3rd number digit let's you know for sure what model you're looking at.
4 = S JHMEG1146RS
6 = Si JHMEH6166RS
7 = VTEC JHMEG2176RS

I have also wondered this myself. I know the Del Sol VTECs have a DOHC VTEC sticker on the back-right of the trunk...but other than that I don't know how to tell the difference. That is a good piece of info about the VIN
stock vtec front rotors are 10.5"
check tachometer redline
check under hood ----
to see if mounting studs for strut bar are on top of the fender wells. (factory has studs welded in)
dual core radiator
94/95's have b16a3
96/97's have b16a2
later model vtecs had option for ABS

The S will be EG1
The Si will be EH6
The VTEC will be EG2
How am I misleading people? Part of those vin. #s are from my VTEC Sol, I only used it as an example. The point of my post was that they can tell which model by that 3rd numeric digit in the vin. #... I didn't say anything about the rest of it. Thanks for accusing though.

Oh by the way:
If you're asking about how to tell from a glance or at a distance, it's kind of hard to tell because the differences between the si and VTEc models are so subtle that they are easily confused.
Aside from the rear "DOHC VTEC" sticker that can be removed, the front brakes being bigger on the VTEc model is how I would tell, but some people aren't as good at guaging that sort of thing.
