How long does it last before it needs to be replaced? It seems like one of those things that never gets mentioned in the manual.

.....that's my guess. You motor will be smoking before you have to worry about the valvetrain imho... rings will go first...

I`ve seen hondas w/ 500-600,000 miles on them w/ stock valvetrain. Not R`s, but..

 

That's why I was wondering. I never hear of "regular" people replacing the valvetrain. Their motor usually goes by then. Just was curious that's all.

 

It all depends on how many rpm you make and how often/long at high rpms......

 

After 100k my motor will get a complete rebuild, including new valvetrain components. As good as the B18C5 engine is nothing lasts forever and I don't want to wait for it to break before I fix it.

The engine is a wear item like anything else.

 

are you going to upgrade at the same time? I would think it would probably make more financial sense (more power, possibly less money on parts) than just an OEM rebuild

 

If you dont over-rev your engine or drive like a dumb a$$, the stock valvetrain should outlast the car. I would guess 200k-300k miles.

i would assume it would last over 200,000 miles if maintained according to manual at least.
