Default how hard to swap in a 1st gen b16a? really?

I've got up to 2g's to spend. My current engine d15b2 needs pistons rings. I can install intakes and headers, never done full exhaust before.

Plan to buy the swap from hmotorsonline or Import Auto Salvage(1150) plus 200 for shipping

HCP engine mounts(250)
and wiring harness(150)

How hard will this swap be?

If its too hard I might just get a zc with mods.

If know places with better prices let me know.

well if you are going to do the swap yourself, then you are going to have to ask yourself a few questions. 1. Do you have good knowledge of both motors? 2.Do you have other transportation? 3. Do you have the necessary tools? If the answer is no to any then if you age going to do a swap then it better be a ZC. you will save your self a lot of trouble and heartache...but then again there is just something about hearing a b16 scream that i cant get enough of.

Why not just get a ZC, if you've already got I/H/E just buy a 89 teg ECU and you should be in the high 14s.

the hardest part is the wiring. and if your gettin a zc. it's almost as much wiring as the b16.

If you have any doubt that you can't take on this project, take your car to a shop.
Good luck.

is it worth going through the trouble of converting a first gen JDM b16 to obd1?

depends, OBD1 dizzy's are easier to find than an OBD0 one.... OBD1 ECU's kick ***. OBD2 people switch to OBD1 and alot of OBD0 people switch to OBD1 so there are tons of programs for OBD1 engines.

well u should tell HMOTORSONLINE TO MATCH PASSWORDJDM.com price for the b16a1. PASSWORDJDM.com B16a1 is cheaper then HMotorsonline. I personally drove all the way down to LA and picked up my b16a from Hmotorsonline. and the engine was good. i ran 14.8 bone stock no mods done. wit no tone up r anything.

Its not that hard to swap a b16 in to your civic. The hardest part is like they said , the wiring. But hasport has the diagram so you could exactly match everywire.
if yours is a dx go here
http://www.hasport.com/Tech/Wring/Dx...r%20wiring.PDF
if its an si then go here
http://www.hasport.com/Tech/Wring/88...20to%20B16.PDF

either way hasort has lots of worthy info.
the only advantage of a zc to my knowledge is that there is not horsepower gap when the vtec kicks in if your turbo. Otherwise get the b16 first generation with a cable tranny. Y1 lsd preferably. Hmotorsonline.com is where I got my engine and i paid extra 300 for my lsd tranny. So far I have had no problems and that was 16000 miles ago. as for obd0, or obd1, or obd2, i have no idea which is better but mine is a first gen b16 sojust my 2cents

ARRRRRRRRRRRRHAAARRGH! NOOOO! Dude, not knockin ZC's, but if you have the money, for the love of god and all that's sacred, IMO please do it right and get the b16? We'll help you with questions you might have. I'm doing mine in like 3 weeks, and i'll be posting step-by-step pictures(yes, I know people have already done this here, but they can't hurt), so if you have any questions, just ask. All it takes it to hit VTEC in your own ride for the first time and you won't have a memory of the ZC

I'm going to convert my B16 into OBD1. I'm looking to engage vtec between 4k and 5k, which ECU should I go with?? I'm looking into a virgin, stock ecu.

here are my reccomendations, get yourself a SI wire harness if you have a dx, Have a 5 foot pipe and a large breakerbar/ratchet/ high torqe impact gun to remove axle nuts (i needed the 5 foot bar the first time i removed them), get hasport mounts, subharness, shiftlinkages, Raxles axles, new oil and water pumps (reccomended not nessesary), you'll definately need a cherry picker, i know i'm forgetting some stuff *poof*

Si Harness w/ injector resistor 60$ tops, hasport sub harness 75, shift linkages 200,

if you can solder and run a wire from the ecu to sensors/injectors.. just make the harness. MPFI and VTEC

i paid 75 for my first one.. and have built 2. it's easy stuff.
