Default To all H22 Accord Owners!

I have a 95 Honda Accord EX with a 94 JDM H22 and every time I change my oil I put 5 quarts in. A week later I end up putting another quart of oil in the car. Does this engine need 6 quarts of oil, or could something be internally wrong.

I thought I heard that H22As took 6qts of oil anyway. I'm not sure. Do you check the dipstick to ensure that your oil is up to the proper level after changing it?

I don't think mine is that bad, btu it's pretty damn close. I put about 4-5 when I change my oil, and I notice that I have to put more in regularly & I change it every 2k. idk. I thought they only took 4 qts.

I check the dipstick, and it looks to be filled to the line like it should, then a week later I check it again, and am a quart low. After i put that quart in the car, the oil never gets low until i change the oil again.

When you check your oil a week later, do you let your car set for a while? If you check it immedietly after runing then there still could be a good amount of oil runing through your engine.

Just an idea, you mat have knwon that already.

Yeah I run it a bit and let it sit a while. I just think the H22's need 6 quarts of oil. Dont know if I am correct, but every time after an oil change, I have been a quart low a week later.

the service manual states 4.8 qts. so almost five. plus what ever you put in the filter.

also might want to check into a oil gauge.. that will help tell you if your low or whatnot

The H22 engine takes 5.1 qts of oil when you change the oil and filter. The h22 is also known to "comsume" more oil than other honda engines. American Honda says that consuming a quart of oil every 1500 miles is normal for the H22.That sounds extreme to me but honda is probably just trying to cover their asses so they are not replacing a lot of prelude engines and paying for them out of their pockets. There is also not much that can be done about the oil consumption( some kind of design flaw), just make sure you check the level often and refill as needed.

My friends ITR and my brother VTEC prelude is know to use oil when it is driven hard. From my understanding that is normal. Just make sure you keep the oil top off.

When I worked at a Honda dealership changing oil after school. We put 5.5 qrts oil in them. Thats what I put in mine and it reads in the two dots on the dip stick. H22's do burn oil but shouldn't need a quart after one week, something else is wrong with that engine.

why didn't you just add more oil to it instead of changing it more frequently
