does anyone know if you can power the stock sub with an amp on rsx type-s
I don't see why not. I'm not sure if the sub has a seperate power source from the head unit or not, but either way, you should be able to do it. Just be careful in not putting too much wattage through that baby or you'll fry the sub's voice coil. As far as the amount of wattage (RMS) the stock sub can take; I'm not sure, you might want to try something small like 50 watts with a low pass crossover set at roughly 100-150 HZ to keep the highs out
I stand corrected. I never looked up the specs on the stereo on my S. But my guess would be 100 watts peak. Even then that would yield an RMS value of approx 50 watts. With that amount we should still be getting a better performance from these BOSE subs. What's up with that. And yes I do know of the TSB regarding the wire polarity being hooked up wrong
the bose "sub" is not really a sub woofer, it's a 5" base speaker...actually it has a pretty large/heavy magnet on it (i opened it up to splice the wires for my RCA's a while back when i still had the system in my car) for a 5" base speaker...
anything other then the factory 100watt amp (i'm also pretty sure it's max watts, not RMS) would be way to much for the speaker to handle...
if you want base, just install a sub...by the way i have an Alumapro BP-12 for sale if anyones interested...late

There's a forum for general audio upgrades. Try that.

if you want "base" or bass, dont go with 10s unless they're like 1000 watts. or just go with 12's with 500+ and you'll get that deep rear view mirror shaking sound.
just my opinion, dont quote me plz thanks

Marivell's uncle is selling his 12 in in a bandpass and kenwwod amp. Hits nice and hard. I'm pretty sure hell let it go cheap. Want me to ask him how much?

another thing i noticed is that usually its only the rsx owners with the rubber floor mat in the trunk are the ones that complain about the sub not being loud, try taking it out...mine sounds decent enough for my taste. i dont have that rubber mat in the trunk so... just my thoughts...
