valve seals help!
i noticed a while back that i was blowing a little blue smoke between shifts on my civic (d16z6), so i did a compression test. i was 190 across the board, so i figure it's my valve seals right?
anyone have any good websites that are detailed to explain the install, or even better yet, kind enough to scan a few pages from your helms?
is this really that hard to do, and do i need to take the head off?
Can anyone give me any tips on the install??
thanks in advance
I really don't think that it is your valve seals. From what I have ever heard from people that if you are blowing smoke on starting up the engine, then it would be the seals. But if you are under acceleration or between shifts then your piston rings or valves might be burned.
oil control rings can be bad, but compression rings can stil be good. It could also be your valve guides too.
I really wouldn't be too concerned, since your compression numbers are good. Just keep an eye out until it's annoying enough to rebuild

I have the same exact problem as well.
My compression numbers were :
#1 200
#2 200
#3 200
#4 195
Black oily sutt **** comes out on start up and the **** gets on my rear bumper.
I'm thinking about replacing the valve stem seals when i do my clutch and rear main seal.
Does the helms manual have instructions on how to do this (replace the seals)?
Any comments you all have to help benefit us..i've never did this before.
Also there is smoke on WOT would new valve stem seals solve this problem?
