problems with L3 transmissions...
i have a 91 crx si with a DOHC zc and my 91 si tranny. before i swapped the si for the zc i re-build my tranny. I got a rebuild kit from http://www.standardtransmission.com that came with new syncros, bearings, and seals. so i re-built it and my tranny didn't grind. i was recently is a accident going 90mph into a gaurd rail. i was in 3rd gear around 7400rpm when i locked up my brakes. now my 3rd gear syncros are gone. even when i double clutch it grinds into gear occasionaly. i need to re-build my tranny again, but this time i might do new gears. should i get a new 3rd gear and new syncros to solve my problem? also why is it difficult to go into 1st gear unless i am at a complete stop? any help would be great!

1st gear has kind of a lock out form the factory preventing ricers and other idiots from shifting into 1st at 60mph. once on a roll you will most likely have to rev match to be able to get back into 1st.
1.you'd need to open your transmission to see what actually got damaged when you had you guard rail encounter. i'd say that chances are it's not an actual problem with the 3rd gear itself, but a problem with some part of the synchro assembly. i'd think that a new 3rd gear synchro assembly would fix your problem. check for damage to the other 3rd gear synchro parts, not just the synchro ring.
2.the reason is the 1st gear synchro can't match the speed of 1st gear, so it's very difficult to get into. if you're going slow you can get itno first since the synchro is able to match speeds.

i understand that i have to match the rpm's before i go into gear. i have drove other stock 88-91 honda's and they all were able to go into 1st gear even if they were rolling (5-10mph). what wears down to cause it to be difficult to go into 1st?
i couldnt go into first gear when i was moving at all and then i adjusted my clutch cable a little bit and could, just a thought
