Default Drawback on lower (195/50/15) profile tires?

I got an offer for a good price on T1S 195/50/15. Just wonder is there any drawback on going lower profile tires as compare to stock 195/55/15?

thanks,
CS

Contact patch should be slightly more narrow than the 195/55. I have 195/50 PZero's to go on this spring, but I am stock so traction shouldn't be an issue. How much can you get the T1-S for?

Wouldn't contact patch be the same? I thought the only difference will be the rolling diameter of the wheel since the side wall will be 50% of 195 as suppose to 55% of the 195?

on drawback is these tires don't meet max. load capacity http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_specsheet.cfm?id=2, now you will see few replies telling how they run 195/50 with no problems..

I don't quite understand that max. load capacity figure. They said it's 1135lbs for 195/55/15 and 1047lbs for 195/50/15. Is that figure represent the max load PER tire or all 4? I mean R weight about 2639lbs. Any input?

thanks for the info.

That's static load. Dynamically speaking the front tires will undergo several times that weight.

IMO the Type R is undertired stock. Putting on even smaller tires makes things worse. If it's just a daily driver - should be ok.

Sidewall height will be less - so the car should feel "stiffer" around the corners. Rolling circumference will be less too - so your odometer/speedometer will be off too. Acceleration should improve marginally.

I'm betting you could get close to 1300lbs on 2 tires in a hard turn, with a disportionate amount on the front tire. I'm heard of people blowing tires in high speed corners because of this. I wouldn't do it. Its not worth the risk.

Kinda freaky. But did that happen on the track or on the street?

thanks,

I run 195-50-15 S-03's without an issue. On the street and track. I do have a overloaded/bloated GS-R so the weight issue should be worse. IMO for the street 195-50-15's are fine. for track I prefer something wider, 205s or 225s.

It was on the street. I think I read it on this forum. If memory server me(doesn't 50% of the time), I think they fliped the car a few times. I think there were something like 2 passangers in the car which obviously raises the weight 300lbs or so.

IIRC you are talking about a Civic Si. And there were far too many variables in that case. IIRC also it was said that the tires were drastically under or over inflated. I don't recall anymore exactly but there was only that one case that I can recall and there was no evidence that the tires themselves caused the rollover.

My car actually cornered sloppy when I went to 195/50/15s. I like the response much more with the 205/50/15 Azenis.

were they 195-50-15 azenis? you can't compare 195-50-15 blue light specials to 205-50-15 azenis.
