knock sensor screwed? what are these sensors?? I've got an extra plug
i'm in the middle of doign a b16 swap into my crx si, now i'm at the point where i've taken the stock harness off and i'm putting it on the b16, the thing is I don't know what these sensors are, and how to hook my colors back up, also i got this extra sensor, back here, ok here's the pic:
see the oil filter? and that green plug in the top right is the alternator. Ok now we got a frame of reference, ok seethat whiteplug, that is the exra plug , i don't know where to stick it. Also you see the sensor's right next to the oil filter, there are two of them, one only has one wire going to it, the other one has two wires going to it, the one with only one wire, doesn't have the wire goign to it yet, and the one sensor to the top of that with two wires, has the wires connected, but i'm not sure if i got them connected properly or not, because one is black, and the other is greenish.
ok, and also it seems as if my knock sensor is scrwed up.
ok se that green plug i'm holdingnow that is supposed to be the knock sensor plug thingy, but the thing that the plug connects to isn't hooked onto the sensor anymore!!
does this mean i got to get a new sensor?? I mean it still could slide onto it but it is possible it would fall, off i could super glue it on there or something, the connector piece has just got a metal piece on it that looks like it should slide into the sensor part it will slide onto it, but of course if i tug on it at all, it will just fall off. ARGG WHAT DO I Do??
oh yeah, one more question, the starter has two wires that are supposed to go to it, but it seems like the one that goes to the bolt, isn't long enough, actually i know it isn't long enough, shoudl i just lengthen the wire? Is this normal? thanks, I've got a pic if you need to see whati 'm talking about but i figure that's a little easy.

Confusing writing... anyway, I'll help as much as I know...
The white plug, I really can't tell where that should go since I can't see all your wiring. Be sure that whatever it's for, it's only gonna plug into the 1 thing that it's meant to plug into, so just plug everything else in and then look for the connector that's not plugged in yet
The one-wire plug is for the idiot light (5psi oil warning light) sender. The two-wire plug with the greenish shiny coating around the base and a LARGE boot with two wires flopping around inside is the thermoswitch for the radiator fan, to turn the fan on when the coolant gets too hot. The connecting order of the plugs onto the switch is unimportant, as it's simply a thermoresistor. The knock sensor plug shouldn't be broken off like it is; personally I'd try to repair it with superglue and if that fails then pick another one up from a wrecking yard. All it is is a little microphone
As far as the starter goes, there are two wire connectors - one connector slides over the pin coming out of the starter (and is coming from the wiring harness loom trunk - NO it shouldn't have to be extended), the other connector is the one with a nut on the top. That one connects directly to the battery positive cable - there'll be a wire for it if you look at the positive battery cable
HTH, and remember, this is the stuff you'll look back on and wish you could do again in six months cause it was so much fun...

oh, so that one two plug thing is a thermo switch, huh? ok, so as long as i got the plugs hooked on to it (like they are) then i'm good?? and just to make sure, is the thermo switch the one right next to the oil filter?? ok, and about the starter line, i guess I forgot about the batter line coming down to it, ok, i guess i'm geting confused, because there is this line that has to be bolted down to something, maybe it's a ground.
see i thought that thing i'm holding was the one that went to the starter, does this just bolt to the block? See there is a bolt to my left on the engine right on top of the place where the thermostat goes in.
thanks for you help, you've really cleared some thing sup for me, making me feel better, i really was worried

The one you're holding onto there looks to be the thermostat ground.
The thermo switch plugs are two separate wires with their own clips, and each wire clip is long, sort of round with a flat portion on the outside of it, and pushes straight onto the pin
*edit* My brother says that he's pretty sure that the '90-'91 has extra crap on the back of the intake manifold, which the '88-'89 doesn't have. I've done my own swap into my '88 CRX Si, and I'm in the middle of helping my brother do a swap into an '88 Civic DX (both JDM B16A sir1), and AFAIK that white plug shouldn't figure into the equation if you can't figure out where it goes.... based on what he says

so what you are saying is that the white connector may just not plug into anything? Since i got the harness from my 90 crx si, it may just be extra? And i may not use it??
oh, yeah, and so the thermostat needs a ground?? if so, then this is definatly the one that i need, thanks so much for your help!!!

Like Tbone said you don't need the white plug. When I did my swap sometime ago I was little curious as to where that plug went also. But I later figured out it didn't go to anything, well not anything important to me.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats the fuel pump ground.
