Cap and Rotor? *Help*
In the mornings when I start my car, the idle drops to about 500 rpm like it's almost going to die. As it warms up, the idle is just about fine.
I recently changed my plugs to the Bosch #4227's, but I'm going to switch to a colder plug since my motor is high compression.
My question is, could it be a distributor problem? What are the benefits if I change my cap and rotor? I have a LS/VTEC with a 1st gen B16a head and a 91 B18a block. Also, what kind of cap and rotor should I ask for at the autoparts store?

We have been having an unusually cold winter here in Upstate NY. I had the same problem with start ups. I bought a set of Vitek plug wires and the car would start in 0 degree weather with no hesitation. My advice would be to invest in a good set of plug wires, new cap and rotor. This will only help you even if it dosen't correct the problem. But my guess is that it will fix your problem.

BTW...did you check your timing?
Are you sure your fast idle valve is functioning correctly?

NOTE!!!: When you put in the new cap and rotor use some Loctite onto the threads of the screw for the rotor as they can back out and mess up your distrubutor. Happened to me, was not cool. I don't think manuals will tell you that though.
I would recommend disconnecting the electircal to the distributor before cranking over the engine without the distributor cap in place. I blew out my ignition coil (~ $90) on my 95 Civic trying to position the rotor like that.

Take of the cap, its 3 screws. The rotor will either have a small alan wrench bolt or a phillips head screw in the stem. You may have to crank the engine to get it in the proper position to remove the screw or bolt.
