Default Exhaust for our cars- Thermal R&D vs. GReddy SP

Just want to know which you think is better for an NA ef civic or crx with basic mods, Thermal R&D(2.25") or GReddy SP. The first thing I'd like to know is the difference in sound, both pitch and volume. What about quality, which will last longer or are they pretty much the same? And also the performance... I know the greddy sp has a chambered muffler that restricts airflow, but what about the thermal? I heard that they use magnaflow mufflers, is that true? If you know anything about them, please let me know what you think.

I am biased--Thermal on both the Civic and Prelude. 100% stainless steel and they both sound great. Soon to come for the CRX as well.

My Thermal sounds even better than I had hoped for. Quiet at low rev's, loud at WOT! It's got a deep tone, also, which i like very much!

Looks awesome too!

Is there anyone that has experience with both, and can give an in-depth comparison?

a friend that i work with everyday has a 91 hatch, B16 and greddy. He has had 1 greddy kit go bad because the muffler cracked. I have the thermal on my 89 hatch w/ ZC. His car is SUPER quiet. You cant even tell it has much of an exhaust. My car is very quiet until about 4700 rpms... then it gets louder, but not rice loud just noticeable tone. Its very deep.

Thanks, but is it going to sound the same way with a stock 1.5L engine?

Does anyone know how they compare performance-wise? Are both of the mufflers chambered, and does thermal use magnaflow mufflers or not?

Basically all catbacks (same sizes) will offer the same hp outputs. You just have to look at quality, looks, and sound. Ryan

Yeah but if the mufflers are designed differently it can affect the performance, right?

Friend of mine living down South in Houston with unsalted roads had his Greddy SP rust out and actually fall off. I love the way the SP looks but I had to go with the stainless Thermal, very very happy customer.

yeah but you're talking about a 6hp gain max with exhaust. so if you ask me, i agree with the guy above, just pic one for looks and sound. a friend had a thermal a while back on his sohc 1.6, and it was prolly the nicest exhaust i've seen and heard. nice quiet tone and looked awesome.

I have the apex'i ws, it's a nice solid peice, easy install, pretty quiet until you get on it, and then it screams, but I also have a header & intake so that makes it louderas well. I've had some ratteling issues that I need to track down, but I'd recomend this exhaust if you don't want it too loud, or if you want something w/ less than a 4" tip. oevrall from me

If I keep my CRX I am going to go with a apex-i WS exhaust.
I want to keep my b16a as quiet as possible.

I'm sorry man, but IMO, there is nothing that sounds sweeter than an APEX-i N1 exhaust when VTEC kicks in. It's ****** orgasmic I'd say the second would have to be the Thermal Stealth exhaust. NICE...

Okay, but does anyone know how the thermal muffler is designed, is it chambered or straight-through? and do they have anything to do with magnaflow?

From what I hear, both the Thermal and Greddy have a similar muffler design/style - straight through . "Anything less would be uncivilized."

I know the Thermal has a 2.25" piping diameter, I'm not sure about the Greddy though... I'm sure there aren't any performance differences between these two models, but I've heard nothing but good things about the quality/sound of the Thermal.

IMHO, go with the Thermal. It will give you results.
