Default engines on yamaha R1 and R6...

R1- 998cc, DOHC, 20-valve, Liquid-Cooled, In-Line Four-Cylinder
R6- 599cc, DOHC, 16-Valve, Liquid-Cooled, In-Line Four-Cylinder

does this mean that the R1 is faster? what does "cc" mean?

CC=cubic centimeter....
it refers to motor size.

it's like a inline 4 versus a V8...well not a good example...but even cars.. cary cc's.

yes.... the R1 is faster..... but faster than that...is a GIxxer !!!!!!!!!!.

A better statement would be that the R1 has a larger engine, or in this case more power. It has a better weight to hp ratio.

But faster is truely in the wrist of the rider.

Oh, ya the GSXR 1000 has a better weight to hp ratio than the R1. Personally I would still rather have the R1. Then again I bought the R6, huh wonder what that means?

you can find pix everywhere...

here: http://www.stickyrubber.com/suzuki/2...01_models.html

for this particular style... u got the 600, 750, 1000.

all look the same..... identical if not for the paint schemes.

that is why you dont buy one....cuz price will depreciate like a *****!!

they come out too quik with different mods each other year.... mine depreciated like crazy!!!... stik to something else... if ya wanna resell!!.. otherwise...if ur a SUZUKI lover.... chose one ya love and stik with it.

on the street if u do 60, I can do 60, if you do 80, i can do 80, if ya do 120+, I'll see you later.... it's not worth it.

Sorry haven't made it yet. So far I have been sticking to the back roads.

I was suprized to see you from around here. You ever go to the track? Myself and a couple of buddies are thinking Sears in August and Thunder in October. You interested?

How has your GSXR been for reliability? I know two guys that have 2000 750s and they both had problems in the fist 2000 miles. My old 750 never broke down, it may have not run well but it never stranded me in 30K miles. I like the numbers of the 1000 but due to reliability concerns right now I would choose the R1.

I lived in Seattle for 6- 7 months. During that time I stayed with my good friend who was part of the racing club that raced at SIR. I've taken his bike out there on the trak a couple of times. It was fun. I still cant stop thinking about it til this day!

He moved recently to Sac. and we are thinking of joining AFM. When? **** i dont know.... at this moment...im broke!!!!!

I have a 1997 gixxer... which is carb'ed....not Fuel injected. I dont know much about problems!! I havent had any mechanical problems at all... none wahtsoever..... the only things i replaced cuz it waz crucial were tires, oil,filter,....and batteries. I've never heard of gixxers having problems... what kind of problems were thay having??

One guy had a front fork that was either assembled wrong, or it just broke during the break in period. No he wasn't pulling any wheelies, the internal guts just started rubbing on eachother and tearing things up.

The other guy who was pulling lots of wheelies and shifting into second lost second gear in the first 2K miles. The dealership told him it is fairly common to loose 2nd gear.

Both repairs were covered by warranty, it is just these are the only two guys that I know who have newer GSXRs. I was wanting a little more info from someone who was not having problems with theirs.

I'll let you know when we go to Thunderhill.

Actually this morning a bud and I went up to hwy 49 and ran that, lots of fun but I accidentally bumped the camera and managed to turn it off so most of the trip didn't get filmed.

Jarrad,
I think I remember reading that the R1 engine had the same external size dimensions as the R6 including transmission with just a minor increase in weight. To be more specific, size in this specification relates to the displacement of the pistons in cubic centimeters.

I have no idea what the external differences are. I meant the internal displacement.

here I will restate that with a little more detail.

A better statement would be that the R1 has more displacement, or in this case more power(not always the case as specific output can vary). It has a better weight to hp ratio, however you may not have the skills to ride it faster than the R6, or some other bike with numbers that aren't as good.

Better numers doesn't mean in the hands of mear mortals the bike will be faster!

Yeah, I was trying to emphasize both the nit picking details and that the R1 was pretty cool with the way they managed the design.
