Got goin pretty fast today
I was on my way home from oregon alongside the columbia river today. It was nice and sunny and there were NO cars in sight for literally 15 miles and no gas station for 90 miles, so I decided to hit my top speed for the first time.
I got my civic up to 150 with the ITR engine (4.7 FD) right at redline in 5th.
I only did this once out of curiousity.. but I am pretty impressed how my civic holds up. There is no steering movement or shimmy. I thought I read somewhere that the 4.7 final drive top speed is about 137 - 140.. right?
Does this sound wierd that I could hit 150? Has anyone else done this with a 4.7 FD? The road was flat with about a 2% grade downhill. Maybe it was because I was going downhill...
I'm not asking for flames, and I hardly EVER go more than 10 over, but on a road like this you can travel at 100mph + all day long. I'm sure some of you guys in the oregon area are familiar with it. (highway 14 east). Anyways, I'm bored just thought I'd share.

4.785 FD hit stock fuel cutoff @ 150 indicated on my vehicle in a similar environment with no downgrade. If I ever get the opportunity get again I'll compare it to my revspeed meter which is dead-nuts on.

whoa..cool it. I thought you got a wreckless driving ticket a while back. Well whatever. The fastest I got is about 115 on the straight at SIR (now PR) at a lapping day which translates to about 6750 RPM. Depending on your tire size, you would be going 136 @ 8k RPM with a 195/60R14 and a hair faster (137 @ 8k RPM) with a 195/55R15. So you were probably going 145 or so at 8500 RPM.
BTW, there is an auto-x in everett next weekend. You should come out.

It went passed the 145 mark, which is the last mark on the Si cluster. It probably didn't hit EXACTLY 150, but I will say atleast 147. My speedometer is acurate as far as I can tell. I drive around town and there are these "know your speed" digital radars on the road that match my speedometer exactly, but maybe it's not as acurate at 140+ ...
I wouldn't ever go that fast again, but this was seriously out in the middle of no where, there is plain view miles and miles ahead of you. No trees it's just farmland..
yeh.

the only good thng about going by a cop that fast is at least he can tell you exactly how fast you were going when he stops you and impounds your car. lol
but seriously, that isnt anything i havent done myself

Ever see what happens to a passenger car when a front tire blows out at 150 mph??
Something like this:
You should only perform top speed runs after thoroughly checking your vehicle and tires.
It's just too damned risky man. Be smarter than that. Your family likes you much better alive.

where's that ferrari picture series?
Hey, I had to to do this. Won't be doing it again though...
I also checked the pressure in my tires before I left to oregon, but I probably should have did some other checking as well. Oh well, I'm safe now.
