Yes there is a differnce between auto and manual engines usally. Usally the auto motors have a milder cam profile but that would be the only differnce.

Auto engines need more Vacuum usually to work correctly with the torque <ha!> converter. That's the reasoning behind having a milder cam, to build more vacuum at idle.

It clearly says D16A on the block[not d16a6..] and its a nippon motor btw..
and unless youre blind that is obviously not a a6 manifold.

700 from nippon.
I thought it was kinda pricey but it has low milage and has a warranty.
Its in great shape..doesnt burn a drop of oil.
and ive changed the oil twice in the first 2500 miles and the used oil was very clean.
Could be faster tho i know it needs some tuning..
it spark knocks at lower rpm no matter what grade of fuel and the idle is a bit jumpy.
anyone had these problems with this setup and know what i can do to fix them?

Huh? what was another sohc that had the first 4 characters of d16a? that is an a6 manifold too whichever you seem to be talking about.

if it looks like a a6 smells like an a6 and doesnt say 6 it maybe a EDM D16A sohc....r u sure theres a vtec selenoid there? open the valve cover and take a pic show us that there is vtec

no it is a a6 throttle body..but the manifold on there came with the new motor.

"Huh? what was another sohc that had the first 4 characters of d16a?"

I dont understand exactly what you are asking...
The motor is a japanese import motor..the engine code on the block says D16A[its only 4 character].

You guys have to be joking.
Yes it has the soleniod and the vtec is triggered by a msd rpm switch..
ill go take a pic of the solenoid and manifold.
I can hear and feel the vtec change over at 4500.

i have a d15b1 with a d16y7 NON VTEC head d16z6 intake manifold intake header exhaust thats quiet and it screams people ask u have vtec and some i humor and say yeh yeh yeh but it doesnt just sounds like that its intake noise cause there is nothing to muffle the sounds from the intake its not "vtec" making a sound its just ur car being loud....

oh yeh and vtec sohc such as the z6 and y8 have spark plugs up top not on the bottom of the head so thats another reason it leads to believe its not a vtec engine
that is incorrect.
sohc vtecs have them at the front of the valve cover the d16a6's are at the rear[towards the firewall].

here are the pics.

anyways back to my tuning issues.
anyone got any ideas.
i hear these are common bugs of this swap..

I guarantee you can hear and feel vtec change over.
I had the motor hooked up at first with out the rpm switch because i was waiting for it to get here.
and it was dead flat no power over 5k.

well what r u running for an ecu please say obd1 and not a pm6 with a rpm switch cause doin that is worthless and will make it very slow and run like crap ive seen alot of people do it and my d15 woops their d16z6's
as for the sound u hear its not "vtec changeover" its just intake noise at Wide open throtle.....vtec doesnt pull ur head back to the seat and if ur runnning the pm6 u shoulda saved ur money bought a d16a6 and had the same amount of power u do now

I believe i mentioned before its a si ecu,a6 injectors,a6 distro,z6 manifold,and rpm switch.
Its worthless huh i guess it would be better off with another stock engine or sitting in the driveway with a blown motor.
sorry my budget isnt up to your standards.
i will ungrade to obd1 when i can afford it.
FOR NOW i need to know if anyone has worked the bugs out for this setup.
not haters telling me my car aint vtec and how much faster their car is than mine.

Are you not listening to me?
i have the 4500rpm pill in the rpm switch and i can hear it change over at that point.
it did not make the change in pitch when the rpm switch wasnt hooked up.

u need to calm down there cheif i said show some pics of the **** and u did i didnt say it wasnt a vtec engine either way it is ok.....but there really is no cheap way out with just a pm6 ecu u could get a afc to richen it up but that will cost some $$ to do.....if u do a search u may find many people with ur same problems and their solutions but i know from experience its worth it to run the p28 ecu
