how many amps in the brake lights?

Default how many amps in the brake lights?
How many amps go through the brake lights? I want to use a diode to make them flash when I open the trunk, but I am not sure what diode to use.

can I just take 12 volts and 5(7) watts from the bulbs and say that the amps are 5/12 = 417 mA ?
