Default removing A/C evaporator in cabin?

i was considering removing the big black box under the dash for the AC. i consulted my helm and it looks pretty simple, however i was wondering where the blower and the filter are. in other words, if i remove this piece, will my heat still work? is the blower/filter to the left or right of the evaporator? also, is there even a filter inside or am i just making this up? i couldnt find such in the helms but i thought most cars had them.

Yes your heat will work, and yes there is a filter on the big black box.

yes there is a filter on the big black box.
so when i take out my evaporator, will the filter still be there? in other words, is the filter before or after the evaporator in the air stream?

I believe the car uses that box as a heat duct when the heat is on. Or else the blower wouldn't be moving air through the heater core. What I did was take the evaporator box out and remove all of it's insides. Then put the black box back, now it's just a hollow heat duct.

thats what i was thinking would happen because isnt the blower before the evaporator in the airstream? half of the reason of removing this piece is so that i can gain some under-dash room for electronics. but if i have to put the empty box back , that wont save me any space

Civics didn't come with an AC filter until 2001.

Yeah a non AC car at the junkyard will have a smaller tube that connects the blower to the heater core.

i just did this on my civic. i removed the black box with the a/c components and replaced with one from a non a/c civic. probably saved 10 pounds. the non a/c black box is just a tube.

Well I removed mine and my heat still works, it might not be as strong as before because there is a big hole there now.

If it works the way I think it does, the blower would be blowing into the cabin at the passengers feet and there would be no air flow through the heater core.

thats what i figured and i guess thats why people are saying i'd need the piece off of a non-a/c civic to carry the air. its starting to make sense now...i just wish i didnt need that piece in the way

i think i got one or two of those non a/c ducts at my shop. its a lot smaller, so it would give you room for other stuff.
