Default Can i NOT replace my whole motor?

OK, so there was a loud knocking noise, and I didnt think much of it. A few hours later, I started my SOL up and started driving. The motor began to stall, and then didnt start back up. When I tried to pop start it- the motor didnt turn over. It cranks, just the 1st cylinder is all locked up. I took off my valve cover- my valves are fine. I took out the spark plugs, and stuck a long wire down there, and put it on top of the piston- and cranked the motor. The piston did not move up and down. Im guessing i snapped a rod. I did not throw the rod, because there are no holes anywhere in the block. Is there any way I can fix this without totally taking everything apart?

No. You need to take it apart to see exactly what the damage is.

that happend to my last blown engine. Most likely you have the following damage

1. rod broke
2. bad piston
4. piston hit bottom of head (could be valve damage depends on the rpm when it broke)
5. cyl walls scarded and scratched when the rod broke, most likely trashed
6. crank most likely distoryed behond resurfacing

i hate to tell you...its time for a new motor. If the cyl walls are ok or its light enough that you can rebore to fix (but then you would need all new pistons) you are still going to need a new crank and then a complete engine rebuild.

drop the oil pan, if your #1 cylinder connecting rod is laying limp, or pieces of it are everywhere, throw your motor in the trash.

My friend was swapping a B18c into his coupe, and on the way to the garage this happened to him. He spun a rod, so I'm assuming that's what happened to you. In the words of 97civhatch,
ur motor is phucked.

What does "spun a rod" mean?
The rod to rod bearing to crank clearance gets loose enough that the rod bearing can spin around in the journal. Normally when this happens the rod is slamming up and down on the crank. It only takes a few seconds to distroy the crank and rod.
