Strong engine, bigger displacement than b series, has more torque than b series even though it still isnt that much. Preludes are kinda heavy. I love mine, but mine burns oil and i cant speak for all preludes but the 7-8 guys i know with ludes say thiers burn oil too, so just have him check it more often. Not a problem amount, just a lil each change. mine is fast on the highways. good power. has a good amount of aftermarket parts if he is interested. many choices for going NA or FI. good luck to him
what he said
oh yeah, the H22 in a Prelude is no different than any other H22
duh, they all came from Ludes

ya but a h22 in a prelude has a much diffrent feel than an h22 in a civic....
i know the potental of the h22. but how does your car handle in stock form? does it pull it's weight well?
informative post though thanks

The prelude handles very well. Look at C&D and such magazines giving it best handling car under $30k and even under $60k a few years ago.
It will feel MUCH different from your hybrid. Remember your basic h22 hybrid will have the same power as a Prelude with 70-80% of the weight. That hatch is gonna be fast as hell, but also damned loud.
A stock Prelude shouldn't beat a h22 hatch in a straight line, but will perform very well in the curves*, and generally are less noisy than integras, civics, etc. It will feel like a nicer car, because it is a nicer car. Just not a faster one.
I can tell you that I have driven in integras, civics, etc. I prefer the prelude.
*not really familiar with civic handling in the twisties, so can't make much of a comparison.

I have a 99 Lude. VTEC engines use more oil than non-VTEC engines, yes, but it isnt burning it in the "POS, black smoke" kind of way. The oil that engages the vtec lobes on the cams burns off after VTEC disengages. So in a sense, yes, check the oil often, but dont think because its uses oil more than any other car, that its a POS
