Chances are he has an 86-87 Teg ECU. They look the same, plug in the same, but will not run in an 88-91.

Does the ECU have a big "X" shape press in it? It goes across the whole ECU, it bubbles out. If his ECU has this it willl not work....wrong year.

Check the ECU fuse in the engine compartment. Its in that plastic box on the passanger side fender.

check for spark..

pull a plug, and connect back to the spark plug wire and hold it on a metal surface of the car while cranking the engine over..if you see sparks you have spark..

then after thats done stick your nose down the open spark plug hole and smell for gasoline...and you should know if your getting fuel..
