JDM 4-1 Header with Spoon Springs - ground clearance issues?
Anyone running Spoon springs w/a JDM ITR 4-1 header have problems with scraping the bottom of it on speedbumps and other stuff? I'm pretty close to buying one, but I have 'issues' in spending $400 on a header only to have it get destroyed in a matter of weeks.
I live in Chicago, and the roads aren't too great...here's a pic to give you an idea on how low it sits to the ground. Just backing up in my driveway causes the front jack-point to hit the curb.
I'm also looking into getting one of those skid plates to keep the wear and tear off.

i heard the ground clearance with the jdm oem header is the same as the stock usdm one...so u should be ok as long as u are now

The JDM ITR 4-1 header hangs lower than the USDM ITR header.

That's the problem with passing on heresay, you end up spreading bad information.

not by much. looks like it's about an inch lower

The fact that it hangs lower at all becomes an issue with lowered cars.

I have a JDM 4-1 with the FLP skidplate on my hatch and it hangs about 1-2 inches lower than my front bumper (kinda hard to eyeball). IMO if you hit your jack point you'll need that skidplate. My hatch is lowered on Neuspeed Race's and I haven't hit anything yet, but I mostly drive on freeways. Hope this helps.

No problem... I slammed her 60mm, use JDM4-1 header and can even race the Nürburgring... my header never touched the ground.
When I had my JDM 4-1 w/ 0.75" drop, I was scared to drive over huge bumps, but never scraped it.
Spoon springs drop the car lower than the advertised drop. Just as RealtypeR (Mark).
I prefer kg/mm springs. They ride really nice and they don't drop the car as much as Spoon springs. (maybe 0.25-0.5" higher than Spoon springs).

The first thing to scrape won't be your header..... at least not with the JDM 4-1.
By the way, nice to see another local R. Where are you located?

One of the advantages of going w/the OEM JDM is that the upper and lower shields are available for it. If you do get the header, I think I'd at least get the OEM shields along w/it.
We left some 'gap' there, as evident in these pics:

The problems I'm seeing lately with those shields is that, when you actually hit something on the road, it put stress on the mounting points where the skidpad plate mounts to the JDM header. The mounting point tend to cracks in time.
I know someone local that bought one and his started to crack afterawhile. I also seen some pics on here before about it. Either way, there's never a solution on than keeping it stock height or minor slightly dropped.
where can i get that shield
