Friend is going on a long road trip, asked me to check over his car...
Hey guys, I don't normally venture into the Accord forum, but a friend asked something of me.
He's got a 2002 Accord DX, auto. He's going to be heading off on a long road trip in a few weeks, and wanted me to "look over" his car before he departs.
The car has 10,000 miles. Is there really anything to check? I'll check tire pressure, make sure he doesn't have any obvious leaks, check the break feel, and check the alignment by driving it. Is there anything else I should check? Belt tension or H20 pump or anything?
Thanks a lot!

There's really nothing to check on a 10,000 miles car, except maybe that the oil has been changed.
I'm going on a road trip starting next wednesday, going from Philly to New Orelans, LA, I'm going to change my oil, and check the air in the tires, and take off the thule rack (gas is getting too expensive) Other than that I've kept things pretty well maintained, My 1993 Accord is departing on this trip with 256,000 miles on it, this is it's 4th Philly to New Orleans trip.
I'd think the friends 2002 with 10K shouldn't need anything if he changes the oil like he's supposed to.

pack some tools and water just in case.
check fuild level, tires, air filter and all that good stuff, be sure to
clean the window good(clean interior glass=more visiblilty at night),
get some new windshield wiper if the one you have is out of shape.
check all the signal and light bulbs.
it's always to carry a full size rims and tire(14inch for dx i guess).
always drive safe and have a good trop

I am thinking that at 10k there isn't anything to do but an oil-change for good measure and the other obvioius things like bulbs, etc. Nothing should Need to be replaced with such low mileage

Check the CV boots and listen for bad bearings.
(with the car cool, maybe one morning when the car hasen't been on for a long time)
-Change the oil and filter
-Check coolant level (cold it should be on the full mark, on hot it should be close to the low line)
-Wiggle the CV joints (at the engine and at the tire)
-(with the tire jacked up tried to wiggle the tire and see if it "feels" loose
-Check PCV valve (the one going from the valve cover to the IM)
-Tire pressure
-Battery charge
-Tell him to go and take the AC (if he has) for service (you should do it once a year and it wouldn't be funny if the AC goes broken in TX
)-Air filter and gas filter as indicated above
-Inspect the exhaust, cuz if is broken in some point people can died if exposed to it by long periods of time
and that's about it, hope it helps
i know is a 10k miles car, but is better to be safe than sorry
My third brake light blub is out, my car is a 02 with 2000 miles
no biggie really but just want to be sure they are in working condition when you are couple thousand miles from home.
