motor poll...which one???
ok, i have a D16z6 in my 88 si right now. has zex race cam, zex flywheel, dc hedder, and a 65 shot. been thinking about going B. have access to a 91 Ls for 400, but the first gen ls only has 130hp, and the tranny sucks. i was also thinking about going b16, but after mounts motor, and shipping, getting in pretty deep. and both will be much slower than what i have now, but i will be going boost in the near future. i had a sohc vtec turboed in my old crx, and loved it, but i want more...so i need you guys to help me out...
i will be turboing my z6 after i get it put back together with some built parts. but i am looking at low 13's in my rex pushing about 250 at 10-12 psi.
turbo the z6, if it is already in the car you have most of the hard work done.!!
boost it blow it and buy a new one (it will still be cheaper than a b16 swap)

If i was you i would drop in the LS. It has alot more potential than the z6 and even the b16(on stock inernals anyway). As for the tranny...the taller gearing is perfect for boost. Youll love the low end torque combined with the top end boost...which is what youll get with a turboed LS.

well performance wise....i need a lil better than "great cam" i mean could you feel a major difference,....what is the power band of it? gas mileage effected? etc...
b16 are nice, you can neglect them, rev the hell out of them, then beat the crap out of them and they'll still run fine. now day's if you blow your botom end up it's just as easy to find a b16 botom end under $100 as it is to find a single cam.

wheres the option for a b18c5?
I would never ever do a b18c5 I would deffinatly save the 1700-2k and build a b18c1 swap.
Also longer gears is not better for turbo.

no it does'nt the b16 is faster stock and a GSR block is cheaper than 20 hp from an LS ---> Where is your proof that the b16 is faster stock? Ive never seen that...they put down similar numbers but the b18 would be better for the street. Nobody wanrs to fly through the gears on a boosted street car.
As for the tranny...the taller gearing is perfect for boost.= only for people who can't drive for ****. No pro racer runs a LS mission or b20 because shorter gears and higher redlines are better for racing with most set ups. ---> Once again...were not talking about an all out drag car...this will be a street car. And my friend with a turboed 99 S1 ran better times after we put in his LS tranny...consistantly.
Youll love the low end torque combined with the top end boost...which is what youll get with a turboed LS. = Um 15 lbft of TQ is hardly enough to do a back flip over compared to 1 extra pound of boost. Again the b16 has a higher redline and will get their faster than a LS which is where higher PSI and therefore higher HP/TQ is ---> Ummm...15lbft is alot of torque....enough to make a feelable difference. And are you saying that the b16 can handle more boost stock? Thats horseshit...they both have strong internals but the LS(because of its lower compression ratio) can handle more boost(stock) on pump gas. Not to mention that the power band is much smaller on the b16 and its at crazy high RPMs.
If I were going to build any motor other than the D it would be a b16 for turbo and b18c1 for N/A either set up can make more power than street legal tires can handle. ---> Man you are seriously confused...the b18c1 is MUCH better for boost than the b16.
