If you have the tools then go for it...

The main things you are going to need is a machine to do a valve job..
A valve spring compresser
Some valve lapping compound
And another machine to resurface the Head...
And a tool to lap the valves in..

and theres other stuff but those are the main things..

actually, it is sort of easy, I think it would take you less time to pull the head off and do it so your not leaning over a car for hours but besides the knowledge of how to do it you'll need your basic hand tools and you'll need a valve spring compressor Snap-on sells one for doing it on the car.good luck! And don't worry you don't have to machine anything.

yea no biggie on doing it. i got the snap on along with a few friends and we did like 4 cars in one night. really easy. dont machine anything or lap the valves if your just changing the springs and retainers, its not necessary unless you have a really large amount of miles on your motor. good luck

Snap-on sells 2 spring compressors. Both say you can do it with the cylinder head either ON or OFF, but 1 costs $45(looks like a clamp with a **** on the top) and the other $115(comes in a case and has several attachments). Which one did you use? I'm looking to replace my springs and would like to avoid removing the whole head. TIA

I would use the one with the attachments, it comes in a red case really easy to use, buy the right tool once and make some money with it doing your buddies cars!
