Just bought my first integra
I am buying my first integra tomorrow. A 1995 black integra 3 dr with 95k miles. I'm really stoked... its the first car I've ever bought.
I have a few questions
1) I'm not sure if the timing and belt water pump has been changed. If I call the local Acura dealer with the vin, can they tell me if it was ever changed in a dealers shop?
2) What repair manual do you recommend?
3) How much are you paying for insurance? I'm 22 and the best deal I can find is ~800/6 months with Nationwide (I have a perfect record)
Thanks for any help... I'll probably be hanging around a bit now.

2. Helms manual. the best there is. period. http://www.helmsinc.com?
3. im paying 1200 every 6 months..25 years old...1 ticket. but i have a 2001...still its ridiculous. what model integra are you getting? congratulations
1) you could call the dealer and see if they can find any service history on the vehicle based on the VIN.. but that wouldn't show if the previous owner got the work done at an independant shop or they did the task themself..if possible ask for service and maintenance records and ask if the t-belt and water pump were done...
2) helms http://www.helminc.com it was around $70 shipped for my 95 manual a few years ago..
3) that to me is a pretty good deal.. of course I had 2 tickets, accident, and full coverage 100/300, w/ U/M coverage.. my rates were like double yours

hey guys,
Thanks for the info. I'll definitely call the dealer tomorrow and see if any record of the t-belt or water pump are on file, if not I'll definitely throw down and get it replaced within the week. It just sucks to waste the money if it was just done within the last 10k miles, ya know?
Btw, its an LS...
Cheers!

youre 22 and this if your first car?
Nahh... I just graduated college, and made my beater from high-school (1990 mx-6, wooo!!) last until now.
So, this is the first car that I've bought under my own name.
I feel bad getting rid of my mx-6. That car rocked. Only 110 hp, but it never let me down in 5 years, no matter how hard I drove it.
It was sortof sad cleaning it out tonight, you know? I was finding all sorts of crap in the glove capartment and under seats, old notes from girlfriends and stuff. Drove me to prom... all those crazy nights in college shoving six people in the back seat. Its like I'm shooting old yeller...

Oh' well...
why not just ask the previous owner? or is this being purchased at an auction or a used car dealership where they have no idea the service history?
hahah on the MX-6.. my friend used to have one of those and she would always crack jokes that it was so old it made its own fossil fuel Lolz(I think it head around 180K) it was like a 90 or 91..
as for the car... maybe you can post the dealership or the VIN and maybe someone on HT used to own it/traded it in and can tell you the history
like I said you can call around the dealerships but that will only tell you IF they serviced it at acura.. they could have done it at an independant shop or done it thermself.. its better to replace it and be safe than sorry (t-belt snaps later on).. good luck w/ your new ride..
my seats were flawless because my old/cracked 95 leathers got stolen even though they were old and cracked
thieves... but I ended up getting new 98+ seats

i gotta say it felt pretty good when i drove mine home from the auction even with 197K it was so far ahead of the 85hp Automatic Hyundai Accent I had just come out of

i can safely say that this will be MY last Integra for awhile, my next car is gonna be either a civic hatch or a 91-95 Toyota MR2, hopefully ill soon have a house and a huge garage where i can have all 3
Cause you know you'll buy another one in the future
whether it be a GSR or Type-R
Thanks for the vent.
Congrats!
How much did you pay?
How much did you pay?
) so in my mind I got it for 7k.I feel like I got a great deal because the car is in incredibly good condition from the interior to the pain to the engine.
So I'm happy!

It sucked leaving my old car there though. It felt like I was abondoning an old friend.
Oh yea, I just ended up getting insurance for $780/6 months through nationwide. There original quote was 1200.. so I was like "what can I do to lower it" and they checked my credit report and came back and were like "780"....
Its just wierd that credit can make that much of a difference.
I'm going to go out for a spin.
Cheers!
ok dude i love MR2's as much as anyone but lets compare apples to apples. The Integra was never marketed as a luxury car expecially not the GSR, its a sport coupe not a luxury car. There are plenty of MR2's out there with very few "luxury" options, mine didnt have cruise control, nor did it even have power steering or ABS, that MR2 was well over $30K when it was axed from the states and youre comparing the price of a 91 car to a 2001 car...what do 2001 MR2's go for? And of course the MR2 is gonna kill the GSR in performance its got a .2L bigger motor and its turbocharged, i think they run like mid 14's bone stock on the **** stock 14" tires
your GSR also has room for 4 adults and a full size trunk, MR2 has room for 2 and a joke for storage, not every MR2 came with that stereo system or security system, you got lucky and picked up a loaded one..good for you its a great car and i hope you have fun with it, i recommend 215 front and 245 rear tires on 7 and 8" rims respectively for the best possible handling, your GSR sounds like it was pretty stripped, but thats about an average proce to pay for a 2000 GSR
btw where did you pick up the deuce and how long did you have to hunt for it? how many miles? any mods on it? go sign up at board.mr2faq.com theres a lot of knowlegde on that site as well as a lot of places to go for hard to find parts. Silo aslo makes a gated shifter kit that looks just like a Ferrari
good luck with your new car but keep the comparisons on an apples to apples basis, each car is great in its own regard

a 93+ tranny with the LSD would be your best upgrade, as far as rear tires 225 is good for all around but i knew plenty of guys including myself who ran 245+, when i had the 245 on i had almost a full inch between the sidewall and the strut tower and it never rubbed, also once just to try it out i put my 235/40/17 on the front wheels and they fit fine and didnt rub
