Default b16 into a b17?

can you use a b17 crank in a b16 to increase displacement and power? i would assume i would need b17 rods also. what would be the difference in compression from my stock motor to these new rods (+or-)? im also interested in hearing any pointers and what people think that are running this setup. also where did u pick up your crank ( i want to get eagle forged rods with pistons) for how much? thanks guys

from what i hear the b17 is a pretty penny and they use it to stroke their engine, but i believe thats on the b18 or b20

Yes, you can place a B17A crank *and RODS* (you HAVE to use B17 rods if you use a B17 crank) into a B16A block. I've done this type stroking before in a past engine proj. of mine. I suggest using B16A pistons to raise compression levels a bit too.

If you have a US B16A engine, your compression is 10.2. now if you stroked a US B16 a w/B17 crank & rods and reused the B16A pistons, your compression would be around 10.5-6ish. What makes compression is the pistons and the stroke of the crank, not the rods. It seems you thought rods raised the compression ... and thats wrong.

I personally had B17 crank+rods+ Civic-R pistons in a B16A3 block. My compression was around 11.4-5ish. Stock B16A head & headgasket w/ITR valvesprings + Ti retainers, Spoon intake cam, ITR exh cam, ITR intake manifold and TB, stock JDM '97 ITR 421 header, Mugen P28 ecu, SFC vtec controller, cam sprockets, dynoed about 175whp and had 120ish ft.lbs of torque.

I totally loved the high-revyness of that engine and still miss it to this day (car was stolen). Did great at the track too (road race).

thanks for the info. sorry bout my wording, i knew that the rods didnt change the compression but the mixture of the rod length and the compression of the pistons, i was just worried the b16 rods may be shorter or longer and wanted to know how it affected anything. thanks for the replies. anyone else have any insight?

no problem, and yes B16A rods are too long if used in conjuction with a B17 crank. The B17A rods are the shortest B-series rods while the B16B/CTR rods are the longest B-series rod.
