this last week ive been driving alot in my 98 jeep wrangler sahara. and ive noticed that it had been grinding alot in second. it has been grinding alot in reverse lately 2. well this morning i was driving to school and i grinded into second 3 times. then leaving the parking lot, i shifted into second and when i let out the clutch it just grinded and reved as i tried to accelerate. one the way home i noticed that any time that i was accelerating at a quick speed it would grind and wouldnt go into gear. i drove around my block trying to see what was wrong and the ******* boot came off. the peice of plastic had broken that connected the boot to the center console. i also noticed that when going from third to second the shifter moves a little viritcly and depending on its vertical position, if the stick doesnt lower that little bit it wont go into second. i guess it moves a tad verticly between gears depending on gear. please help what could be wrong?

 

It first sounds like your second gear syncro went bad and then you kept on grinding the gear and wore it down so when you rev hard it doesnt bite anymore.

 

this is a time when double clutching isn't just a fast and the furious leg humper

 

there is fluid on my skid plate comming either from my tranny or my transfer case. Eh my guru dad and i are fixing the ****. i hope i dont need a new tranny

 

nah just a new second gear, might have parts floating around...who knows, take pics if you can i'm interested in how this will turn out

 

yea its sitting in my garage right now. im gonna get it fixed and possibly sell the jeep. looking for about 12k. i'll let u know whats wrong when i find out.
