I am in the middle of putting a manual rack in my 1999 Civic Si. I was told to buy a coupler for a manual 96-00 Civic because the pinion rod coming out of the rack is smaller than one from a power rack. And it is. However, the coupler I bought looks exactly like the one I pulled off of my car. One side of the coupler is slightly wider than the other. The smaller side fits onto both the steering rack pinion post and the steering column. But the other side is too wide for both rack and column.
I called Honda and they said that all couplers are the same for 96-00, manual and power. Is that right??
Has anyone dealt with this?? Did I get sold the wrong coupler, do I need one from a 92-95?? Or do I need to replace my column as well??
This is my daily driver and I need to get it back together soon. And no, putting the power rack back in is a last-ditch effort. Thanks for your help !!!
