Default VINs? please LOOK

what are motors that do have a vin numbers on them! can u tell me the year and make for exmple: all 97+ have vins... i i need to know this because i cant bring a stolen motor!

engine code (B16, B17, H22, etc). The VIN number is
usually on a little metal plate riveted to the oil
pan. i got a 88 dx motor and i dont see d15 anywhere, but thanxs
