cam gear?
depends on what else you've done to the engine, and what you want to get out of it... I know if you go one direction (I think it advance) you gain power at higher rpm's but loose power at lower rpms, and if you go the other direction (retard i believe) you gain low rpm HP at the expence of high rpm power. I may be wrong on which is which.
also, don't forget, when you change the cam timing it changes the distributor timing, so you'll have to re-time the dizzy after you adjust the cam.

actually when you advance the timing you get good low to midrange power, when you retard it (depending on how much) it increases top end power but the low end is severly sacrificed, again it all depends on how retarded or how advanced you do it, i would probably do +3 degrees cam timing
