Idle problems
Can anyone help me with this problem......when my car idles (usually happens when im stopped at a light) the RPMs drop to around 3 or 400....sometimes it even seems like it is going to die out on me
so i rev it to keep it going, but then it will stay at aroun 700 for about 2 seconds and then drop again
....anyone know what the problem might be...thanks.....BTW i do have a chip in my ecu....its a 95 civic ex....thanks!

sounds like the IACV....I have the same problem. Cleaning it out with carb cleaner should help it out, many people solved this problem by doing that. I did that and it seemed to help a little bit(idle stays steady now) but every now and then it'll still die.
does it go up and down? I thought it just went to 3-400rpm and just stayed there.
If it goes up 700 and down to 3-400 frequently it is your IACV.

i dont remeber if it was doing it before the chipped ECU, but it doesnt happen all the time, so that why i dont think that it is the chipped ECU; its been too long to remember when i got it chipped and how it was before that...also, not to sound like total moron, but what is IACV...im not good with abbreviations....thanks and if i get flamed, then i guess i deserve it....thanks for the help.....
Idle Air Control Valve, its located on the back of the intake manifold. There are two 12mm bolts that attatch it to the manifold. Does it only idle bad when the car is warmed up?? That can be another indicator that its the IACV.

sounds like your idle is just low. Turn your tb screw up a "notch" or u can make your tb cable a lil tighter.
good luck

First off, get it up to operating temp with no accessories on and adjust the idle screw on the throttle body. Should give you another 2-300 rpm
If that doest work, then it could be a vac leak.
It wont be the IAC unless you're throwing a code. Get up to operating temp and unplug the sensor, if it stops fluctuating, then that's your problem. Anyways, just to be safe, clean it out and do the screw. If your IAC is bad, it will throw a code...trust me
thanks so much for the help guys...you've helped me out so much....it makes me so happy to be a part of a website like this....
thanks again!
thanks again!
