Valve Stem Seals, how do I get them out?

I have all my valves and springs out of my b16a head and I was wondering how do you take the valve stem seals out???? I tried to pull them out with some pliers and they just break apart. What do I do????

if you're using pliers (slip joint pliers i would imagine) grab a hold of them, and twist the seal while pulling on it, but there is a special tool to do it also.
