Default Tranmission Question

I have 1991 Honda CRX Automatic 4 Speed. The tranny is completely shot. I need to get another tranny, and want to keep this car an automatic. I have a guy who would sell me 1988 Honda CRX Automatic Tranny 4 Speed. I was just wondering if it would go into my car w/ NO conversions or extra parts!

Thanks
Danny

no it wont. that 88 trans's input shaft is a 21 spline vs your 91s 20. youd need an 88 clutch kit in order for it to work. also the flywheels are 2 different sizes. so just an 88 kit w/o corresponding flywheel wont work

Contact All Foreign Auto Parts in Pittsburgh-the last time I took anything off of the 90 CRX they had the tranny was still in it. There is another yard here that specializes in imports that might have one as well.

After checking part numbers on the Majestic Honda sight if appears that the 88's are different than the 89-91. It also appears that the 89-91 Sedan's got a different auto tranny than the Civic/CRX. All the 88's look to be the same. As far as what is different, I have no idea. Just a little further info for you.

you already caught your own clutch snafu, but..... auto tranny's have splines?????

personally, I can't think of any reason an 88 auto wouldn't fit into a 91.... the differences in p/n's is probably gear ratios.

worst case scenario, just like using an 88 clutch, p/p, and flywheel to make an 88 manual fit a 91, you should be able to get an 88 auto to fit with an 88 tourque converter and flexplate.
