Default Mini-Me parts list??? Anything else?

Ok, i've been thinking about doing a mini-me head swap for a while now and i finally piled up a parts list, i want you guys to see if you can find anything that i may have missed. Heres my list:

'96 Sohc vtec head with intake manifold
b16 throttle body
Cleaning and porting of IM
Gaskets for IM
16 pcs. OEM valves
Crower stage 3 race cam
Crower Valve Springs and Retainers
Cleaning and Porting of head
All gaskets and Seals for head
Zdyne One wire ecu with B16 program
AEM Fuel Rail, Regulator, and filter
S-AFC or V-AFC
ARP head bolts
Oil and oil filter
antifreeze

This is all i can think of, can you think of anything else i may be needing???

you should probably get a SOHC program (d16z6, dz6y8). or at least thats what i did with my mini-me.

well i heard that with the sohc program that even if you ask them they will always give you the z6 program. I feel that the b16 program would provide more air fuel mixture along with the 8000 rpm redline. i was even thinking about asking them if they could put a performance b16 program if possible. i heard that the dohc over sohc on the chips doesn't really matter. anyone else?

Well, even if they do give you the Z6 program, I think it would probably run better than the B16 program...

Ooooohhh... I don't know. I used all three of Zdyne's one-wire conversion ECU's. I started out with the Z6 program--it wasn't bad. It was definitely an improvement over my A6 ECU, but it didn't release the full potential of my Y8 head. Next, I tried their "Y8" program--this isn't the real fuel/timing map from the Y8 (P2P?) ECU, it's just a slightly modified Z6 program... In the end, the Z6 program functioned better than their "Y8" tune.

Last, but not least I tried the B16 program. This seemed to run very well using the Y8 head. It idled smoothly, and it had decent power at 4k+ rpms, but anything lower than that kinda sucked.

In the end I used (and still am using) a PG7 ECU, and a V-AFC. I see MUCH more power using my current setup than I ever did with the Zdyne ECU. But since you are using a Zdyne w/VAFC, I would stick with the B16 program. This would give you a nice setup, since you can specify your rev-limiter with the Zdyne, and adjust the fuel with the V-AFC. In the end, you'll have a mean SOHC!

Just my thoughts and experience... Also, remember that the Y8 head and the Z6 head are very different. Most people don't realize the radical changes on the cam (intake side) and the intake porting. This head (Y8) has much more potential than a Z6 does, IF you do a p&p job on the head. The Z6 program just simply isn't enough for the Y8.

Also, don't forget to get the timing belt (must be the same model as the head) and the water pump.

ok, i remembered the timing belt after i posted this. But do i really need a new water pump?? I just rebuilt my a6 and by the time i get this done it will only have at most 2500 miles on it. or do i need a vtec water pump (dont see why)?

also anybody else

Red_Si- What are the benefits of using a B16 TB? Would it be worth picking up one for my setup?

MrTodd-
Is the PG7 ECU plug and play? Should I use one? My friend and I both have mini-me's. He has a Y8 head and A6 everything else. He's planning on using a Y8 intake mani, and Z6 dist and ecu with harness adapter. Would it be better to use the PG7 ECU? I have a Z6 head, A6 everything else w/afc. what would you recommend for me?

If you have a A6/Z6 mini me, then a 88-89 'Teg PG7 ECU would be great for it. The PG7 fuel/timing maps are strong enough for the Z6 VTEC lobe. When the Z6 is in the Low cam lobe it might run a little bit rich (but not too bad). If you really wanted to tune it more, then a VAFC would be great, because you'd be able to lean out the lo lobe mixture a bit. Otherwise, a RPM switch would be the next best bet to activate VTEC. If you don't use a VAFC, then you might want to stick with the A6 fuel pressure regulator (FPR), this will keep the fuel pressure just below 40 psi causing the motor not to run overly rich.

Yes, the PG7 is a plug and play ECU--fits into the Si wiring harness with no mods.

As for the Y8 head, I used the PG7 only because it has a higher revlimiter than the PM6--the VAFC helps you do the rest. The biggest problem with using a Z6 ECU on a Y8 mini me is the VTEC activation point of the Z6 ECU, it's too early. You wont get the most out of the Y8 using a Z6 ECU.

MrTodd, I have a quick question.

A friend gave me a 37820-PM7-000 and claims that its a DOHC ZC ECU from Japan.

Now will this ECU will be any better than the PG7. This is something I'm not aware of.

The SOHC stuff is too new for me

the b16 tb allows more air into the manifold than the a6/y8 one without boring. I also heard that you can't use it on the a6 manifold only the 92+ manifold. I probably will end up boring the b16 tb anyway tho.
