Default Rebuild of a DOHC ZC.

Okay first off, I got a DOHC ZC from a buddy of mine for like 100 bucks. He had somewhat done a rebuild in the motor. But he told me that the more he went to turn it over by hand the tighter and stiffer it was to turn over. THAT"S NOT SUPPOESED TO HAPPEN! Then he bought another one from H-MOTORSONLINE and sold me the motor and we pulled it apart last night and saw that he stacked the #1 rod bearing. I was sooooooo happy! I am going to replace the bearings and piston rings. I have some questions about the parts though. What rings do I buy? What bearings do I buy and lastly can I use B16 rods and pistons? Because I know that the rods are really weak.

im not too up and up on the ZC, but ide seriously doubt the rods, or pistons from a B16 would fit in the ZC.. im sure for 1, the crank in the B16 being a "B series" crank and block, its much bigger than the ZC.. the CZ engine is very similar to the D series engines.. even though its a DOHC... sorta weird motor.. but on the real.. those ZC's are cheap.. unless your confident on your work, and rebuilds.. ide just go buy another used one.. how much? $400?

Im fairly sure that you should buy rods and bearings that fit the D16a6 motor.. someone with some on hand experience plz confirm this.

You should be able to have the rods machined to work. Someone on here has done that. I don't want to try to go in to detail since I haven't done it myself.

Okay if they won't fit can I bore it out to a certain degree to make them fit properly? I know that the pistons will give me more compression and they MIGHT be free! I have a buddy that has a B16A motor he is gonna use the head on his LS motor. The botom end will be just sitting there. So I kinda want put them to good use. And yes can I get somebody to clear this up?

im almost possitve the B16 piston wont fit in the ZC sleave.. in order to alow it to fit.. youde have to resleave the block.. then, your crank might make your throw too long, i doubt its ever been tired.. just something thats not practical.

b16 pistons def won't fit in the zc block since the bore on the b16 is 81mm and the ZC bore is 75mm.

this should help for what parts to get:

I'd get rods and bearings from a D16A1 (1G Integra)

Proper. A6/Z6/Y8 parts are different, the ZC is a crazy JDM anomolie with a number of one off parts. B16 rods or pistons will not fit, period. The rod bearings are too large too make it onto the ZC crank, and there are no bearings thick enough to ever make it work. Possibly LS will, I don't know anything about this, further more would not waste my time as you will not see any real gains in reliability.

Oh, and buy a new motor, it will ultimately be cheaper.

cost effectiveness would be to purchase a new motor. but if you really want to get some info on how to rebuild your ZC you should check out http://www.travis118.com. His rebuild is one of the better ones Ive seen on the net.

I second.. another used motor with give or take 30K would be just as good as another used one, rebuilt.. your not gaining that much.. its basicly still fresh..

First let me say that there is nothing wrong with the pistons in the ZC. I just wanted to put stronger rods into the ZC because of the small and tiny rods in the ZC. You that keep telling me to get another engine you actually think that it's cheaper to buy another motor? Guys I think you forget that I got this motor for like 100 dollars all it needs is like bearings, and piston rings and it's done? This is not under debate I will keep and rebuild the ZC. I was just wanting to put stronger rods and maybe higher compression pistons but I have a budget of $455. NO MORE! I am about to have a child and this is it as far as mods for a while. I can't believe she agreed to let me get it in the first place. But that is it, I am not trying to get rude but that is the way it is sorry I just wanted to know if I could put those B16 rods into the ZC.

your rod bearings alone prolly lookin at 50 bones.. and rings.. aftermarket rings are like 60.. it all adds up.. unless you get stronger D16 rods, which will prolly cost more than your budget, or close too.. i got my eagle rods for my B16 for like 450, your not gunna be able to ring it, and get those bearings. you need more money.. or should of saved the 100, and put it torward a straight ZC.

Nice direct port NOS kit on the "my car" tab...
almost makes me want to take the fogger out of the air box, and become "known" lol

from what I have heard is that 1st gen b16a rods do fit you have to notch the block...

I am looking into 1st gen supra pistons and I think it was b16a or b18a/b rods that work to give me lower compression for more boost...

im not to sure about all that.. i belive youde have to look into your rod end bores.. im sure the B series crank, and D series cranks aren't similar.. i tryed getting ITR pistons on a PR3 rod, and i had to shave out the insides of the piston for the rods to slide.. it lasted for a while, but i wouldn't recomend it.

Okay then let me see if I can get you guys to answer me these parts questions the list is all the things that I want to replace or need to know what USDM part corillates with the part.

REAR MAIN SEAL:
PISTON RINGS:
ROD BEARINGS:
HEAD GASKET:
OIL PUMP GASKET:

Oh and the cheapest DOHC I can find is like $700 shipped. The SOHC is like $455.
So I think I still will come out WAY ahead of the game. I will be doing all the labor so it will cost nothing but the parts.
