Default Problems with my new motor. Have any ideas?

Well, like I have said, its in, and it starts, barely. Something is wrong with the timing, tdc, something. That I am pretty sure of. I have to have the cam gear adjust to almost 14 degrees advanced (#7 hash mark) for it to even start. Then, it sounds really, wrong. It just doesnt sound like it should. If I try any other setting on the cam gear, it just cranks and cranks, but doesnt fire up. What I was wondering, is does anybody know how the AEM cam gears work? There are 4 lines around the edge of the gear, and one has a little circle on it. This is what I assume is TDC right? Here is a pic:

So, that should be just a tad past tdc right?

Anybody have any ideas? I am only throwing one code, which is a water temp sensor. I highly doubt that is the problem. I just need to swap out the sensor.

But the motor is as follows:
p&p head, 3 angle valve job, gude cam, milled head, aem gear, zc pistons. All of which was just put together.

edit: I really dont know why my pics wont show up. Here is the same thread. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...threadid=87406

dude from what i see you are ******* way off. like 2-3 teeth. check that you have the crank at top dead center. the hash marks on the side should line up parallel with with the straight edge off the back cover of the cam gear. not to be a dick but you gonna have take the belt off and adjkust that.

yea dude timing is way off. think of the basic on ignition timing. if you cant set timing than why the **** are you doing a swap. like i can put a tblt r&r in 15 min and be dead on the center of perfection.

Hey jdm_civic_racer back off just a little. He is asking a legitimate question. Remember when you did your first timing belt and how nervous it made you. Help or keep your opinions to your self.

These guys are right, you've very lucky that you didn't bend some valves

Yeah your prolly off a few teeth on the cam gear. I don't think you have to worry about your valves though. I had a bad belt on my 1.5 and this happened to me I drove for about 15 min back to my house. Pulled the head and checked it replaced gasket and put it back together with a new belt . It was okay. No Prob, but It wouldn't hurt to check your valves anyway.
