motor mounts wouldn't clunk when slowing down...more like when you apply load...

when i had my POS saturn... my upper motor mount went bad. it would clunk like crazy at idle. when i would apply the gas it slowed down. i guess the engine flex moved the rubber just right or something and it would stick. after a while yes it got much louder when i hit the gas and as the mount broke more.

i would only hear the clunk when im slowing down. i dont hear it at idle or anything, also i hear some whining noise commin from the motor.. im thinkin its something that has to do wit the timing belt, but not sure. could that have to do anything wit the clunk?

It is probably the control arm bushing or knuckle assembly. Mine has the same issue and the dealership, after hours of testing, narrowed it down to one of those things.
