Hardcore cam???
I'm planning on putting a crower race cam in my car with a sohc vtec head. I know that the idle will be bad but my question is can you adjust the idle screw thingy to compensate for the low/rough idle? will it make it any better?
yeah thats the sweet thing with vtec, complete and total sleeper, you can have a stock idle and still make power upto 10k. I don't have vtec and i've had a high idle, and yeah, you just use the idle nut and adjust the idle, unless you wanna keep it at 750 rpm and stall out every time you hit the clutch pedal
are you serious? i was told that the idle is really rough with the race cams??? if its only in vtec then i have nothing to worry about!!! anybody else have any input?
it is if you've got a non vtec motor. but the way vtec works is its got 3 lobes, primary, secondary, and vtec, so it just cycles through the lobes until it hits the vtec lobe and vtec is for high end, and the others are for everything else, if you look up how vtec works you'll understand why, its pretty cool. Kinda like 3 camshafts in one. or maybe more like 2
well i pretty much understand how vtec works and everything, but i can't believe that it doesn't affect the idle at all? oh and i'm gonna be using a y8 head on my a6 block, that won't make a difference in rough idle tho right?
BTW Viper how much did you get your cam for and is set up for nitrous or all motor?

Red_si....I am about to get the crower cam for my motor also. The stage 2 is what im shooting for. (STG 3 is too crazy) But anyway, the cam DOES make a difference in idle, there's a slight lope to it but only in the crower 2-3 stg..not STG 1 though. It even tells you on crower's website that a lope @ idle is to be expected. But it sounds bad *** when youre at a stop light or just chillin in the paddocks waiting to run...wop-wop-wop-wop...heehee....my friend had one in his 94 EG SOHC and it hauled. Crower doesnt leave the low cam lobes alone, (Which gives the slight lope at idle) they modify them also to match the power of the high cam....if they left them alone and only mod'ed the high cam for high HP, the power transition would be to drastic and rough.

i have the zex 59300, and the cam profile is more agressive than the crower stage 2. zex also said that you may experience change in idle, that's just to cover their asses. there is absolutly no change in idle, but it sounds like a b18c going into vtec. i got my cam for $156 (cause zex is right here in town, and we get deals). i'm spraying right now.

I hope all of you are running new vlave springs or else you will experience valve float (some people are scratching thier head and going huh..whats valve springs?) haha j/k...just do it right if your gonna do it.

Also, I've heard that the zex 59300 will not provide as much power as the crower stage 2. Go to http://pub143.ezboard.com/bhondadseries and do a search. These guys are the d experts. Also, eg6ajk ran a zex 59300 in his jdm d15b and didn't notice any real gains (the stock jdm d15b cam is already pretty wild). His next sohc vtec should have crower stage 2 or 3's (he said in his post).
BTW - anybody run the gude HCCS14? I've got a complete d16z6 gude head package that I bought used on the way. I know gude doesn't normally upgrade the valve springs, and apparently the cam makes power from 2000 to 8500 rpm. Any advice? Thanks.
