I hear they are crap and they destroy trannies...I dont know ANYONE that uses them.
They arent real LSDs either. They just lock the differential completly

I used one last year in my Pro-Stock integra and it dropped the 60' times from 1.9 to 1.5. I also have a customer that uses one in his Integra that he Solo races and it works very good. It is designed like RWD differentials like Eaton and Moroso.

That's the first good thing I've ever heard about a Phantom Grip.

From my understanding, it installs inside of (rather than in place of) your stock differential and converts it into a sort of rudimentary locking diff. I would stay away personally, as I have seen a number of diffs ruined by having these things installed on them.

they cost about two hundred and for another 150 or so you can have a type r lsd off of ebay. which is the way to go if you ask me. our trannies are very picky and i would stick with oem parts if at all possible, and in this case it is. if you are going to do a lsd get a lightened flywheel and possibly a final drive. it's best to dao all the work you wnt to on a tranny at one time. that way you won't hve to pay 400-800 each time they open it up. if your car is relatively low mileage spend the money on the upper block first because later down the road when the clutch neeeds to be replace you will have to open the tranny again.

that's funny shift bushings and a short throw shifter have nothing to do with tranny work. they are independent and will stay on the car wether the tranny is there or not

lol Too late he already bought the random slip.

Run a search on Phantom Grip...I don't think I'm the only one that thinks little of them. It's essentially the same thing as a welded differential, only you get to pay $$$ for it.

Cheap parts that perform well are kewl. Cheap parts that are the same as welding your differential and break all the time(Phantom Grip) are not so kewl. Just ask around buddy...or better yet open a brand new Phantom Grip box. This is a lock, nothing more. It locks your differential together, you'd be better off welding it and saving the money for a real differential Quaife, Kaaz, or ITR. You go ahead and get your Phantom Grip and bring your car on over and we'll see who's carload of "cheap" parts get to the end of the 1320 first.

Really, I don't understand why you're jumping down my throat because I insulted a part you were asking about. A part nobody has anything nice to say about. I'm done with this thread anyway, if you want a phantom grip "wanna be" LSD then more power to ya, but it's extremely expensive for what you get and it's money much much better spent going toward a new or used ITR LSD.

ITR LSD are very very nice, but if you can afford go w/ quaife... they are certainly more expensive but have a lifetime warrenty that covers racing also. Its engagement is a little smoother also. Both are great, not sure which one will find its way into my tranny yet.

Breaking axles... I don't think so. Breaking the stock differential cast maybe so.

Phantom Grips DON'T lock your differential. They are available with different spring rates between the plates depending on how much transfer or lack of transfer you desire.

anyone read the april issue of Sport Compact Car where they installed it in a neon? They gave it a good review. Now we wait and see how it does. It is questionable but effective. Only thing I worry about is what about the friction? You have the phantom grip rubbing 2 pieces of the spyder gears making heat. THey also didn't mention any type of material or coating that makes it safe to rub the spyder gears against the phantom grip. I wonder if you get metal shavings? I know I wouldn't want metal shavings in my trans bearings. Can anyone comment (with experience preferably) on metal shavings or the wear and tear on the spyder gears?

I'm delighted you're happy with it. For what you likely paid you could've nearly bought a real LSD however.
