Painting moldings on a honda ...
wanted to re-paint the moldings on my car after an accident scuffed them up.
I would usually sand the molding down, clean it with goo-b-gone, then paint a few coats, then put on the clear coat.
It seems to work fine but after a few months it gets dingy and ugly.
Whats the proper way to ensure a good clean paintjob on a plastic molding without an expensive plastic adhesive.
Any thing that they would sell at a Kragens or Pepboys that acts as an adhesive thats a few bucks a can?

I used clearcoat the other times ... still dulls and gets ugly.
I'm guessing that the paint doesn't " stick " to the plastic well enough ....

lol is because you dont know how to apply clearcoat.
a light coat will look dull but a evenly rich coat will have the
shiny finish.
I used to not use clearcoat since it looks shiny and all the good stuff, but
the clearcoat give it a much better protecton from weather and rock chip.
it hold the paint in place.
use the best material you can get
also use a good primer/paint base.
i used those primer for bumper and molding because he have "flex" in them,
they stick better and have little more flexiblilty.
painted
value cover, water squiter, both oem side skirt, front lip, eye lip, mud flops, rims, brake caliper(sp?) and other tiny bitchy stuff.

NO - it's because you're using spray paint.
You'll NEVER get the right finish and hardness that "car" paint will give you. EVER. No matter how good you paint it and how many clear coats you use...
So.. you should probably have it painted professionally.
This is a procedure for painting in a shop:
Clean
sand
clean
bondo
sand
primer
sand again if necessary
primer again if necessary
sand with high grit paper
clean with "scrubby" pad
paint
Not:
sand
spray primer
paint
spray clear

well it is " car " paint, just in a spray can.
i don't see the difference that would make it different except from the adhesive they use to make paint stick to plastic.
i'll just sand more thoroughly and let it dry longer than usual ....
