Default cam and cam gear question

my friend just got on a prevailing wage job and will be making some extra money and wants to put it towards his car. its stock except an AEM intake. what should he do. he is planning to stay N/A and has about 1000 to spend. I was thinking Type S cams or Skunk 2 cams and then Skunk 2 cam gears. I dont know that much about the H series engine so i was looking for your opinions on this. am i heading in the right direction or should he be getting something else. all comments are welcome. and the installation will all be done by us and doesnt cost a thing.

Whats the matter he doesnt want to let his engine flow better first, like get exhaust and header? the SIMPLE bolt on mods. as far as doing it yourself i think it would still be a good idea to bring it somewhere to be dyno tested and tuned because with the cam gears you might want to advance or retard the timing to get the best power gains. The type-s cam is nice and oem honda stuff which is good, but i checked cams out a while ago and i believe the skunk2 and crower and so on have more aggresive lifts and durations. So what is your friend looking for also. He could get a slightly aggresive street cam(which the type-s wouldnt be bad for) or he could get a drag\race cam which he probably wouldnt want on the street due to where the power is. (correct me if i am wrong anyone, please). So find out what you are plannning on using them for, thats my advice.

Personally, if I was looking for good reliable parts for my Prelude, I'd be upgrading to Type S parts, for two reasons: 1.) they yield very decent power gains, only slightly lesser than aftermarket, 2.) you can never go wrong with OEM parts, it's like guaranteed reliability. Yes Skunk2, Crower, etc. have more aggressive cams and yield slightly higher numbers, so it's up to your friend what he's wanting. Most people will agree that Type S parts are a waste of time any money when you can better for the same price, maybe cheaper. To answer your question, you're on the right track, either decision will work---just find out what end results your friend is looking for to justify what to get...
