ABS???
Sorry for posting so much in the past couple of days. I just have alot of questions about my car. One of the criterias when i was choosing a car was that it had to have ABS brakes. The dealer told me my 98 Accord LX has one. But last night i was reading the manual and it said the ABS light should turn on when the engine starts. But i do not see the ABS light when my car starts. Could it be the light is broken or did my dealer lie to me??? Is there an easy way to check besides taking it to my mechanic?? thanks!!
u dont see the ABS light turn on, or u dont see the ABS indicator at all? if it doesn't come on, then the bulb might be broken. i think when u turn the key on, the little buzzing sound u hear is the ABS....or fuel pump, its somethin like that. but if have the ABS indicator, then u have ABS, cuz honda wouldn't put it there just for ***** and giggles.
but if u did have a problem, i blieve the ABS light would stay on, and the car might throw a CEL. not sure tho, never had a problem with my EX.

shouldn't it just turn on when the car is motor isn't started, but the key is in the run position?
If you do have ABS there will be a second resivour of brake fluid, not sure about your year but on the 93 accord it's on the passanger side of the engine compartment towards the back. It's got an Orange cap (or at least my 93 does) if you only have the one normal brake fluid resivour then you don't have ABS... Also the guy above is right go on the road with NOBODY behind you and just slam the brakes if they lock up no abs....
OK Now I'm not sure what to tell you but I have two pictures to show you, one is of a 93 accords' ABS reservoir. Seen here: (P.S. it was the label that was orange not the lid sorry about that)
Next is the ABS Motor on a 98 Accord EX, seems on the 98 they didn't have the extra reservoir. Hope this helps.

Yeah, i read that you can get abs as an option for the EX. Anyway, i couldn't see the part that was circled in my car. I'm going to take it to my mechanic this week to make sure. Is there any way to INSTALL abs into a car that doesn't have one?? or is that too expensive? I'm just annoyed that the dealer specifically said that the car i bought had abs and it seems like it doesn't. thanks for all the help
the chances are if your car doesnt have abs when it roll out of the factory, it prolly never will.
It just way to much money and unknow little problem for it.
just get get big brake upgrade.
do you autocross or race it alot?
some ppl rather have it disable during some event.

It may have been an option on the LX but it would be standard on any EX. Since 1993 the EX has had ABS... the LX I think had it as an option from 96 onward.... I'd say that adding it would be pretty expensive, you'd need to buy the sensors for all 4 wheels, and all the extra brake lines, plus the modulator, but then again a junk yard might be your best bet. Just seems like an awful lot of work for something you could just trade that car in and find one that is exactly what you want, if I were you I'd go back to the dealer and ask him what the deal is?
