How to remove the SRS light.
You can't get to the SRS bulb from the back of the cluster like the other bulbs. An easy solution is to unplug the yellow plug from the cluster. This will disable the SRS and ABS lights.

Yes it is illegal.
You have to contact NHTSA for permission to remove your airbag.
You can also void your insurance coverage by removing the airbag without NHTSA approval.
If you do obtain permission you have to notify your insurance company and it is likely that your rates will increase.
I know this because I use to work in the legal dept of an automobile company.

yep, just reach up to the back of the cluster and feel for the little square plug(yellow) and disconnect. It will be on the right side of the cluster if you are sitting in the driver's seat. I just looked for it in the helms manual, realized it was the only yellow plug, reached up in the general area and unplugged it by feel, then checked the plug to make sure it was the yellow one.

removal airbags? unsafe?
i'd argue that point with a fine tooth comb.
either way, yes, if you fail to report it to the ins co, they can deny a claim easier.
if you report it, rates go up about ~$50 a year...atleast for me

I'm gathering there must be a difference in the wiring between an earlier car and a later car?
My car has no bulb to be removed, but it's clear that a couple of people just removed a bulb and were fine.
So, what...97 and 98 have bulbs and 00 and 01 do not?
