I am painting my '90 dx hatch s2000 Suzuka Blue. I've got alot of the details panned out except for the black bumper moulding. To paint, or not to paint. It is going to have a JDM EF9 front end and SiR spoiler. The ant. will be shaved along with all emblems, the hatch will be swapped for a std wiperles unit, the door handles will be rear 4g 4door units with no locks color matched, the mirrors will be color matched. I am going for kinda "stealth" appearence, most people around here don't know wtf a jdm frontend is and the subtlety i like. That is why I am thinking of not color matching the mouldings. I'm affraid it will look to "modded" and attract attention, and that I don't want. It will be rolling on stock appearing civic HX 14" 11.9lb rollers to add to the stock effect. It will be lowered slightly because 4gs sit too damn high stock. I plan on making this into my new "turbo sleeper" hence near stock blue paint color. I want it to be so only real 4g Honda geeks reconize the difference. I have many reasons for building a sleeper most stem from my way too modded looking CRX, that is about to get red paint sprayed on a Fiber Images hood. Please supply your input below.
Moderators please don't move this to the appearence forum, only 4g owners oppinions matter to me.

An open pole so people can say Suzuka blue is gay. I dunno, I am open to what people have to say. If you feel you have a real new answer feel free.
I was going to get my mouldings painted too but was advised not too because of a couple of reasons. They're too old that paint will not stick well and will chip easily. And it's easier to repaint it black everytime than to colormatch the body every time it chips... Unless you dont use your car as much and quite careful where you park, then I'd go for it. I kinda like the color matched mouldings too.
I gotta agree with a couple ppl that flat black or black in general looks good, if you wanna keep it a sleeper then I wouldn't paint them or just paint the rest of the car flat black but like bryant said "Whatever floats your boat"

I had my mouldings painted black to match the rest of my car (and this a dirt cheap paint job, too) and I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever in the last 6 months. Prep and prime it yourself and you should be fine.
aren't ef moldings not very smooth plastic? they seem kinda rough and gritty looking/feeling to me. to make them not look like crap wouldn't a *TON* of prep work have to be put into sanding them down smooth?

It's not too bad. Multiple coats of primer will smooth them out somewhat, then sanding the primer with a fine grit paper makes them fairly smooth.
color matched man...or get a can honda bumper black and redo the door trim since its usualy faded..but if you color match ur door handles and mirrors might as well do everything or else it will look un finished...my dream would be my beige hb with ...repaint..gray/black bumpers still unpainted with c/f hood...on my ole crx alloys...i love the black filler plate/mirror/bumper look if the std...thats the sleeper style imo..beige on tan with brown pinstriping...with b16a and oem alloys

have them color matched but do it the right way!!

use some plastique primer on it before painting,
them go with paint, same for miror and door handling, I got my car color matched and it look nice to me,

I dunno....if it wasnt like that from the factory dont do it i guess...leave em black....gives the car a line for the eye to follow...
But what ever you think is good, do it...it's your car!

The only way that I like everything matching is if its black. I dont think like a red car with red everything or a yellow car with yellow everything looks that good in my opinion. I dont know its almost like over-kill if you ask me like you see those Beretta's and such with red everything including the rims and I think it just looks like ****. But having many people said it "To Each His Own"

Just like that. A little bit darker blue, though. A tad smaller on the wheel size. Nice ride though man, real nice.
when the mouldings are painted, what type of paint is used? I have seen people try to paint there's and it's just a waste of money
the paint will not stick to the surface of the bumper / rear bumper / side mouldings... how is this done?

it flakes when peeps do it themselves or spray paint it..you have to clean the trim real good with cleaners esppecialy if armor all or simm products were used to shine the the trim...When you get your bumper painted they use flex additive to keep it from flaking...unless its a cheap paint place

My paint job is paid for I don't have to worry about that. I am trading an engine swap for a paint job. The guy doing it painted my CRX and is really good. My mouldings are in excellent shape so if I don't color match them I'll just leave them oem and hith them with meguiers trim detailer. That stuff is the shizznit. Anything I should do to my dx rear bumper to help the paint adhere better? Should I just ditch it for a Si bumper?
me personally i would paint them, here is a pic of my hatch with matched side moldings
