how much power and what brand amp for jl 12w3 d2
actually just got the sub....got a good deal on it so I just bought it
the amp itself is still no way what I would call a powerhouse...though I have heard other people say it puts out more power than stated...I still figure a sub with a rms of 250 watts only getting about 140-150 watts really isnt close to its potential
not to mention I have heard of people pushing 400 watts into one of these with no problems.....
I am going to take my car to the shop where my friend had the box built for me and have them take a listen...I think with a different amp I'd get what I am looking for from it....plus I still need to lay down some sound deadening material in my trunk...but I havent decided what I am going to use yet

Actually I just did some digging and it seems that in bridged mono your amp will only do 4 ohm. So yeah you're gonna wanna get another amp anyway.
exactly!!! so now my thing is that I am really not sure what kind of amp I need to get for this thing....been reading crap on the net...some people are running mtx mono amps with these and having no problems...
the whole wiring thing is what throws me off...I should look for an amp that is a 4 ohm amp or a 2 ohm amp ?
I've never really had to deal with a dual voice coil sub so I'm new to this aspect of audio

Oh. As I said earlier, you can run that sub at 4 ohm or 1 ohm. The only way to get it to 2 ohm would be to leave one voice coil disconnected which wouldn't be preferrable.
ok so then I need to focus on a 4 ohm amp...because arent 1 ohm steady amps $$$
man thanks again...we've been going back and forth for two days now

well that brings me back to the jbl amps...for the money the 300.1 is 300 watts and is 1 ohm stabel
the 600.1 is 600 watts and is also 1 ohm stable
the 300.1 is only 125.00 off of ebay brand new

Check out one of the the memphis digital amps. I have heard good things about them and they are reasonable for what they can do.
This one would be nice for you since it will do
300w rms @ 4 ohm
600w rms @ 2 ohm
1100w rms @ 1 ohm.
It will allow more expansion to your system.
OR

250w rms @ 4 ohm
500w rms @ 2 ohm
So with one you could add one more 12.
