93-95 vtec. becasues its obd1. staight and simple.

if you can't find one for 6k. you can always find a Prelude S for 2500-3k ish. and swap in a jdm vtec for 3k.

good luck!

The 1993 model year Prelude VTEC was the lightest VTEC Prelude ever sold in the US.

I picked a '94 because it is OBDI, and has the leather interior. It also has the lighter and (in my opinion) better looking wheels. I'm actually selling it if you are serious about getting one.

I want more than $6k, but it comes with stock parts. If you need the money, you could sell the modified parts, put the stock ones back on, and end up about where you want to be financially.

It's lighter than the 97 and up... and if you get an h22 vetec or the rare h23vetec the bitch wil run stupid times... I got a 93 h23 non vetec for 6,000 and it was a dog. I spent 4,000 on a jdm h22 vetec and Now im right at 200 hp. If i were in your shoes i would get a 92-95 hatch and drop an h22 vetec in there... youll have to buy special motor monts but that have no problem smoking any stock lude
the price of the averge hatch 2,500-3,500 motor swap 4,500... alitle over your price range but the out come definatly bbe worth it!!!!

Always remember- Spelled vtec. Anyway, he's right they are lighter than the 5th gen. You more likely than not wont find an H23 Vtec..and id advise against attempting to build one..unless you're a pro like someone by the name of Satan_srv. But in any case, 94 vtec model is your best bet. Good luck finding one.

If you are going to play that game with a civic hatch, I say you are better off with the B18C5. Similar power (though less torque) with a lot less weight. Keep in mind that the lighter car will have much worse weight distribution with a H22 than a heavy Prelude...

OBD is On Board Diagnostics there are two stages OBD I and OBD II.

OBD I is on cars made before 1995 and OBD II is cars made after 96.
The OBD II system is a more sophisticated system to better control emissions.
Some people claim that it de-tunes yours mods to reduce emissions. I've never seen evidence of this though. Stock vs. stock vehicle OBD I and OBD II are the same.

I have a 96 SR-V Prelude and it goes like stink. When I was looking for my car I drove a 95,94 and my 96 felt a lot faster. Buy the car in the best condition don't get hung up on OBD.
