Stock Intake Riser Tube Question on Civics
I have a 1990 Honda Civic and was wondering some things about the first intake tube that starts just above the radiator/exhaust manifold and goes down into the bottom front of the airbox on the passenger side of the car...First of all, why did Honda put this tube in front of the radiator/exhaust manifold...This is a VERY hot place if not the hottest place on the car, and I would think you would get less dense oxygen there for power purposes...I am assuming they positioned the tube up high for anti water intake but they could have just had a small riser tube going high up next to the air box where cold air comes in...Secondly, is this tube tuned to give low end torque to the engine? Not that there is much of course but would removing this take a bit of lower end away providing you would gain some cold air down by the box?

most people remove that as soon as they get the car if it is stock. not a big difference, but i have never done it myself. i use a stock airbox on my B16, with a hole cut in the front of it, and a piece of ducting to direct air in from behind the front bumper.
Remove it and see what you think. Removed it is similar to a short ram air intake. You should see a slight increase in fuel economy, and a hair more top end power (correct me if I am wrong) also a deep growl. Ryan
