Default The final chapter in my tranny deal from hell

I hate to bring this back from the dead since it has all been supposedly settled.

However, I must point out that it is absolutely critical to check once, double check and finally triple check with your shipping/ receiving party and take nothing for granted.

The cliff notes are here:

I send 330USD (which is almost 600CAD at the time) for BLOWN tranny

I request that it gets shipped to BELLINGHAM WA

My shipper disappears and the whole manhunt on HT.com starts

Everything gets resolved (so I think)

Shipper turns around and tells me he shipped it to my mailing address in Vancouver BC, CANADA. When I specifically stated I needed it to be shipped to BELLINGHAM WA.

SHIPPER doesn't inform me of declared value of goods.

I assumed (my mother of all fuckups) that it would be 330USD.

UPS shows up to my door today and I paid 220CAD for duties/taxes because Shipper wrote down 700AMERICAN DOLLARS for declared value.

Not only did I bite the bullet, I ate the gun.....

Let my stupid **** up be your lesson. Never assume that the shipping party knows what he is doing. ALWAYS insist on the method YOU (the receiver, in my case, up my ***) is most comfortable with because YOU ARE PAYING.

----------------------------------------

Unimportant disclaimer rant rant...bullshit bullshit:

I work the same hours, everybody passes the same time together, it's just I happen to live here and my money is worth less than what my southern neighbors make. Imagine working a full days work, but only getting paid about 60% of your normal assessed wage. That is what I am MOST pissed off at right now. This tranny which was supposed to be delivered to Bellingham WA, for a CAR in Bellingham WA, is now going to cost me EVEN more to cross border ship it AGAIN.

So thats what 4.4$ US / Hr, I want to cry. And now the gas is 90 cents a liter so about 3.4 can a gallon.

G3 was intended to be the receiver.....it's a long story..... one that could have been easily mopped up if:

1) There was constant communication between buyer/seller (as I have ALWAYS had before)

2) Had I taken the precaution of running over the details again.

Still a bit frazled....

Not to hijack your thread here, but if duties are so expensive, what's stopping someone from shipping something to canada with the declared value of $1 or something? Another $220 to get the **** across the border is insanity.

You can, but if it gets lost or doesn't arrive, there is no recourse. It's lost, it is gone, both parties lose out. So you have to take that chance....

I was going to ship an intake to Canada, and the guy wanted me to put a lower value. I said ok, but I CANNOT refund you the money you paid me (and be out an intake and its value) IF it gets lost. My reasoning was that if it was that important to him that I declare a very low value, he has to know the risks going in.

Chris N is right.

The only reason why I didn't refuse the package and have it shipped back to the seller is because the box that it came in was old and THIN.

It looked like customs opened it up and rifled through it and then used tape to ensure it would "sorta" get here in one piece. If I had risked shipping it back, it might have been destroyed/damaged which would then entail getting my money back from my shipper/UPS which would have caused significant delay.

And even if it was returned to the shipper in one piece...there is no guarantee that my tranny would come back to ME, now to WA undamaged. After weighing all the possibilties, I couldn't do anything BUT pay the $220 and just eat it.

maybe he put down full value just incase it gets lost and you can claim insurance for it?
